Just in — The bipartisan "Byrd bath" on the immigration provisions in Democrats' social spending bill is scheduled for 10am TODAY, according to two Democratic aides.

Dems will argue the provisions are eligible for inclusion in the bill, and GOP is expected to oppose.

NEW: Today’s meeting with the “poker-faced” parliamentarian has just concluded with no verdict announced on immigration provisions— participants are awaiting a written decision.

Why do you guys even care at this point? DACA for all is disappointing even if it passes. I know it will benefit aged-out dreamers and others, but really disappointing that it will not provide free travel or way to legalize for them or current DACAers.

From my understanding it does allow travel. Thats the only reason I care.

Is that confirmed? I just haven't seen anything regards to how they would allow people to travel internationally

I wonder if leaving to buy property in order to GTFO of here would be a “qualifying AP” event, lol. I would setup up bank accounts to facilitate direct bank transfers (I know I could put it into bitcoin and cash out over there but I don’t want to place all my financial assets into bitcoin). I would buy a place in Eastern Europe for the summers and a Spanish speaking beach paradise for the winter. With my future digs already setup I could ship my junk directly to the places I want them. This would greatly ease my anxiety about the move. Otherwise, if I just leave I would in effect be “homeless” while I move. I really want to avoid that feeling.

No news from Durbin on yesterday’s parliamentarian meeting on immigration. "She was non-committal, listened to both sides, will tell us within a day or two," he told me

The bipartisan meeting, known as a “Byrd bath,” follows an information discussion MacDonough had on Nov. 23 with Senate staffers, who emerged feeling positive, according to a source familiar with the meeting. The source said MacDonough, a Senate adviser, did not reject their proposal outright, as she had with earlier versions of the immigration section, and indicated she wanted to move forward with the process.

I’m curious about this myself. I keep seeing people write that it would be the same as current AP but they never actually provide a source for that. Even if it is travel with AP, perhaps they will lower the threshold for allowing someone to leave on AP. So that you don’t need someone dead or dying in order to be able to travel.
