I just broke up with my boyfriend of years. Obviously I feel really sad, the word sad doesn't begin to describe how I feel. This is the first time I make a thread like this on a forum, out of all my friends only one of my friends knows everything about this breakup thing...

The only thing that could make me feel better would be getting approved, but I have such a complicated case.

For those who've had serious relationships, any advice on how to handle this breakup? I don't want to tell my mom or family they'll just worry too much.

My breakup in my mid-20's was pretty tough...first serious relationship, etc. The thing that made getting dumped worse was that the main reason was because of my status whether directly or indirectly. I also couldn't really fight back fair or give the old "I'll show her...some day she's going to see how successful I've become and she'll be sorry in her empty little life" because well, I was an illegal and it turned out she was the one who became a success...

What made me feel better? being able to smile again. It hurt a lot at first, hurt less later, and soon I rarely thought about her until we'd talk and then I'd be all hurt again. After a year we never talked anymore so that was the best solution. Also, meeting new people (as long as you don't go overboard and do stuff you'll regret) helps.

so you guys still kept in touch??

I was with this guy for years, we would text/talk every single day. It's not that I just broke up with someone, I also lost one of my best friends...

I guess I just need people to tell me that "it gets better."

I was just talking with my friend and she told me it took her a year and half to get over his boyfriend....

Now imagine that this guy was my best friend. This feels soooo bad, I'm sure I will feel a little bit better tomorrow, but I can't go to sleep.

It may sound masochistic but I love listening to my favorite break-up albums... Crying myself to sleep. Then analysing the lovely times I had with my gf, wouldn't trade that for the world. "You live... You learn..." then time heals everything. But, Love is an extremely abstract emotion... Don't make the mistake of thinking there is a simple answer or solution.

You will eventually fall in love with "the one"... Just take comfort in that. Certainly, all those fabulous qualities your ex appreciated in you will make another guy grateful to have you in their life. And don't talk to your ex, it will make you hurt more even if he was your best friend.

"Relationships end... But love never ends." You have all the love of your family and friends + Men... There are a lot of them. I hope you feel better and hope for the approval.

Like I said, there really isn't a time, you will get over him as soon as you can let go, that could take a week or it could take 30 years, it depends on your personality.

You should try keeping busy and don't look to get into a relationship because you will find yourself comparing your ex to the new guy or girl if you decide to swing (he he ho ho, just a joke to cheer you up )
