MUSKEGO - U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan cast doubt Friday on a plan by President Donald Trump to cut legal immigration, saying the American economy needs workers to replace retiring baby boomers.

I just think arbitrary cuts to legal immigration don’t take into effect the economy’s needs as the boomers are retiring," Ryan said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "With baby boomers leaving the workforce, we’re still going to have labor shortages in certain areas and that is where a well-reformed legal immigration system should be able to make up the difference."

Ryan cautioned he has yet to fully review the proposal and said he does want to overhaul the immigration system to focus on economic needs like dairy farms and research and engineering work. But he questioned the wisdom of actually cutting the number of immigrants entering the United States.
"I think legal immigration is good for our country. I’m a supporter of legal immigration," Ryan said.

millions of americans enter the workforce every year.
labor shortages contrary to popular belief are not a terrible thing unless it's a case where there's a lot of workers but no jobs.
they allow jobs and companies to compete for the labor of workers improving wages and opportunities.

Labor shortages are great, they allow higher incomes, and allow more people to chase the American Dream. Shady businesses take advantage of us Undocs/Illegals , by paying us below market rate.

Cant find workers?

Raise the goddamn wages from minimum!

If we cut legal immigration, there will be a labor shortage and thus the market will raise the wages for the workers. This means more money in the hands of the people, who can then afford to buy more things, and buy more education. It reduces unemployment by literally having more jobs than people to fill them.

This is why we must restrict immigration with all of our DACA brothers and sisters safely inside the US and Documented.

This also cuts welfare usage among the very poor. As it gives them more opportunities.

Businesses will simply invest and setup shop elsewhere. Businesses will flee by droves if they cannot find qualified individuals or labor costs get too expensive. They will move to Canada, Europe, Mexico and if not they will invest in automation and replace ur ass with a Robot.

Great, and that means more jobs that pay reasonably well in maintaining these robots.

It also means more technology jobs for people to develop the software for these robots.

Businesses will only flee if they are able to, most wont flee, as Trump will put some sort of tariff on them leaving.

If they flee, then some other business, probably a small business will take their spot. No harm done.

Still no downsides.
