"President Trump has told confidants that a government shutdown could be good for him politically and is focusing on his hard-line immigration stance as a way to win back supporters unhappy with his outreach to Democrats this fall, according to people who have spoken with him recently.

Over the past 10 days, the president has also told advisers that it is important that he is seen as tough on immigration and getting money for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to two people who have spoken with him. He has asked friends about how a shutdown would affect him politically and has told several people he would put the blame on Democrats.

Trump’s mixed messages on a partial government shutdown could hamper the ability of congressional Republicans to negotiate with Democrats, whose support they need to pass spending legislation in coming weeks. Many Republicans said this week that a shutdown is a possibility they hope to avoid. Even inside the White House, aides fret about the possibility, saying it would not poll well."

The article provide a lot more insight, recommend you guys go check it out.

And well I guess Trump doesn't "love" us dreamers anymore. Not looking good guys

He cares more about what people say about him than getting things done like CHIP, DA, hurricane relief. Even to the point of doing a gov shut down. Which will hurt vets (he said that). So that means he doesn't really give a crap about vets? But only cares about himself.. who would've guessed.

The backlash he’s about to receive is going to be amazingly intense. He is beyond delusional, I can’t even fathom how someone can be so incredibly stupid. My god.

So he's openly admitting to wanting to force a shutdown, then blaming someone else for it. He's truly an idiot.

At least he will trick his base. That's good enough for him

I have said this over and over again. If the pro-immigrant orgs want anything done, they will have to give Trump some sort of political victory. If he were to sign a clean bill, bye bye re-election. Signing a clean bill would make him look like a total loser. HE WANTS SOMETHING IN RETURN. At this point, give him his fucking wall. A wall will not deport anyone.

Trump is a huge narcissist. I acknowledge hes does not truly care about us; I doubt he actually cares about his family. He is trying to get what he wants. But, if we can get legalized out of some sort of deal that can benefit himself without endangering others, why not?

Overlook affection and whether he likes us or not. Who cares at this point. Let's focus on trying to get Dems to reach a deal with him. That is the only way we stand to have a chance--unfortunately.

So, do we keep pushing for a clean bill knowing we will end up with nothing for the sake of opposing a racist narcissist? Or do we try to get him to meet at the middle?

He cannot walk away empty handed by signing a Dream Act. If he does, he will lose his voter base. Liberals will damn sure not vote for him in the next election even if he does legalize us. Plain and simple: he probably doesn't mind legalizing us, but he is also focusing on re-election.

He may have a point. I was reading somewhere that a government shutdown has historically benefited the party affected by it. I will try to find that and link it.
