Obviously,I think everyone should take this with all the salt from all the oceans, but the Senator from New York believes [or at least publicly displaying ]that immigration reform can happen before this year ends.
Quote:
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer is predicting that sweeping immigration reform will become law before the year is over.

Schumer, a Democrat and chairman of the Senate's immigration subcommittee, spoke at the New York Daily News/Citizenship Now! headquarters. He said he expected Senate hearings to lead to a major change in U.S. policy, the Daily News reported.

"I believe that this year, we can pass comprehensive, strong, fair immigration reform," Schumer said.

Schumer's comments came on the heels of President Barack Obama saying America can't continue with a "broken" immigration system.

Obama has stated that he supports comprehensive immigration reform that includes an eventual path to citizenship for millions of foreigners illegally in the United States. During his presidential campaign, he promised to make the issue a "top priority" during his first year in office.

Last week, Obama said immigration reform is necessary because the current system is "not good for American workers. It's dangerous for Mexican would-be workers who are trying to cross a dangerous border. It is putting a strain on border communities … And it keeps those undocumented workers in the shadows, which means they can be exploited at the same time as they're depressing U.S. wages."

Obama said his administration would first work to secure America's borders before trying to reform U.S. immigration policy.

"If the American people don't feel like you can secure the borders, then it's hard to strike a deal that would get people out of the shadows and on a pathway to citizenship who are already here, because the attitude of the average American is going to be, well, you're just going to have hundreds of thousands of more coming in each year," he said.

"On the other hand, showing that there is a more thoughtful approach than just raids of a handful of workers as opposed to, for example, taking seriously the violation of companies that sometimes are actively recruiting these workers to come in. That's again something we can start doing administratively."

guys at this point it's CLEAR that they are not going to bring up DA first before trying CIR. So let's stop whining about how it's unfair or not possible and go with it. If CIR fails this year again, We know that Dream Act will get another shot as an independent bill.

The same topic again .

Well if there is a chance to tackle CIR, then why not? Yes, most of us dreamers would like Dream act first but still we should not be selfish.

I personally think dream act would have a better chance of passing. But what if we are wrong? I am preaty sure, the reason that CIR is being tackled is not based on some sort of whim.

In congress, actually majority whip and other senators/reps, go around and gather information on how many votes they have and how people would vote. While we might think dream act has a better a chance, the reality might be ( or might not ) be diffrent.

Also dont forget there are some senators/reps that might only give the vote for CIR. I am not sure, but i think there are some senators that do not like things to be done in a piecemeal fashion. Isnt even Obama against that?

Also lets not forget, we cant forget about the support groups. I would think the number of groups that support overal immigration reform would much more than just dream act standalone. Would it not be better to combine the forces? Think about it, all the groups that support overal immigration reform and all other Dream act supporters ( like collegeboard, UC system, Microsoft, ... ) united as one pushing for immigration reform. I think the united force of all these groups have much better chance of passing any bill.

Again lets trust the people who have worked for many years, selflessly for the equality of every one and for our rights. I would think they would know better and would pick the best path and method to pass immigration reform. Lets just trust our great supports and do our best to pass the immigration reform. Fighting among ourselves such trivial matters ( like dream act before CIR) will not get us any where.

P.S. We are truely blessed to have such great supporters and people that care about us so much. Lets do our best.
P.S.S. I do not think Dream act will come up as a standalone bill but we could always try to push for it so that it can come up as part of an educational bill. That could always be a possibility right?

whoa watch your language fatty, if that is you in the picture, which i assume you are based on your senseless comment.

who said im better than other illegal immigrants? im taking a position thats more condusive to passing the DREAM ACT. this isnt CIRACT portal, you fat fuck. lose some weight then think with your head. or is that just filled with fat, too? cir has fat chance of passing this year anyway. pun intended, btw.

the whole spirit of the DREAM ACT is the fact that we were brought here when we were young, that we are educated in the american system, learned and accepted the american culture, and know nothing else outside this country. that makes us different. does that make us better? no. different? yes. thats the whole idea.

get along with the program or get the fuck outta the "boat", fatty.
