THIS IS NOT TO GIVE ANYONE HERE AN IDEA!@ It was such an interesting article.

A former immigration enforcement agent says he is seeing an "epidemic" of fraudulent marriages where foreign women marry American men, then claim domestic violence to escape the marriage and legally remain in the U.S.

I agree 100000% with this. there's ALLOT of sham marriages. I personally know 2 of my friends and like 4 of my dad's friends that did this. they have their names both at one address; showing that they are living together. you would easily find a trailer trash girl to do it $10,000. I found one, thank God I changed my mind. If that bitch ever changed her mind within 2 years, I would've been fucked.

there's many people including myself that one of the reasons I want to remain here is because of someone that I can't let go. It is not fair for the ones out there that really fell for someone while being in this country;let alone having a child together... to not get a chance. The more sham marriages evolve, the harder it would be to prove a real marriage.

imo, being away from the one you love, is the hardest thing about all this immigration b.s

You know sad part is people that got their paper through these marriage, most of them living good life and people like us are suffering. Now even real marriage goes through lot of scrutiny. In my opinion, every person that got their legal paper through sham marriages, needs to get in jail and deported. I know it would never happen.

what is so messed up about this system is that people can get papers through marriage by going to a not so hard legal process. but people who are about to get deported, they cant cancel their removal unless they have a USC spouse that would suffer "extreme" hardship in case you are to be deported. and soo many people are getting deported; leaving behind their wives and kids.

i have a good friend of mine who is in removal proceedings, he has a 4 year old daughter and another daughter on the way. they wont let him stay... backwards system.

This article concerns marriage fraud through VAWA from what the agent is saying. It is likely true due to how the laws are structured coupled with an increase in online dating across the world.Foreign national women basically target US citizen men through dating sites/services in the hope that they would one day be married & petitioned to come into the country, once that happens they usually just claim 'abuse' at some point in the marriage to get their Green cards through VAWA without having to go through the mandatory 2 year conditional requirement.

I'm not saying that there aren't a good amount of legit claims,I'm just saying it is a known problem.

your right Ianus... there are legit marriages... but the problem is that the more those sham marriages occur, the more it puts the true marriages at risk. the burden to show a true relationship is higher than before.

wow, that's horrible! I hope your friend's wife filed for him.

Yeah, it's really not fair because it's like they don't consider being away from your family or the one you love is enough hardship. You have to have extreme hardship like serious health problems and if you're lucky enough to be healthy, then it's very difficult.
I'm afraid of having my husband file for me because if I get denied, I won't be able to be with my husband, as he's in the military for at least 5 more years.

But with all the sham marriages, it's only going to get tougher.

I don't think I would ever marry someone just for papers, but then again.. I'm not even legally able to marry in California, LOL.
