In January, Benita was pulled over by the police. The officer said she “rolled” through a stop sign. Benita denies it but it does not matter. The policeman got what he was looking for — an undocumented Mexican immigrant. (Her own fault. This happened, after she decided to be "honest" with the officer and explain that the reason she drive without a license on purpose, the reason being she had no other choice because she was in the country illegally.)
Though she had a Mexican Consular ID card, she was carted off to jail and deportation proceedings were started against her
Since that eventful day, this shy brainiac of a student--valedictorian of her high school and college graduate--has been thrust into an uncomfortable limelight.
