If Schumer won't do anything, should we then have faith in Gutierrez?

Angry Chicago immigration reform activists heading to DC to lobby

Immigration reform activists will travel to Washington next week to make their case to lawmakers.

Emma Lozano, founder of Sin Fronteras and one of the trip’s organizers, said the Latino community feels frustrated with a Democratic administration that hasn’t made good on campaign promises to Hispanic voters.

“Instead of the comprehensive immigration reform that we were promised,” Lozano said, “the deportations, raids and separation of families have increased under the Obama administration and a Democratic majority. Therefore, the Latino community is angry.”

Lozano estimated about 300 people will be joining the trip that starts Monday evening. Participants will meet with lawmakers and lobby for immigration reform. In addition to Sin Fronteras, a number of groups within the Reform Immigration for America National Coalition are taking part.

“This is our final notice,” Lozano said.

Illinois U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago) is expected to announce details of a new immigration reform bill on Tuesday. His office declined to give further information on Wednesday, preferring to wait until next week's announcement.

Illinois has long been a destination for immigrants to the U.S.

A 2008 report by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press estimated that 11.9 million unauthorized immigrants live in the U.S., around 450,000 of them in Illinois.

I have faith in one man in particular, BARRACK OBAMA. We have nothing to worry about. He is holding the highest office in the land...His decision is the final decision..As Bush would say, he is the DECIDER and Commander-In-Chief. Therefore, we have absolutely nothing to worry about...The time has arrived. Passage of health care reform will open doors for the Immigration Reform which will go down in history as a great legislative success for the U.S. Congress and the highlight of the first term of the Obama Administration.

But next year is an election year and I'm sure that the debate on the economic crisis, energy, Guantamo Bay camp closures as well as the two occupations overseas will make next year much more tense.

In addition, the unemployment situation is going to really be taken into overdrive to chastise Obama and the Democrats for political points.

I think that Congressman Gutierrez has been extraordinarily outspoken about the issue, and when CIR is enacted, he's one of the people who should take credit for it.

If we only had the House, health care, immigration, and energy reform would have passed a long time ago. The Senate is useless, and it's really unfair since it gives too much power to people whose states are smaller than LA county.

This has always been the plan. The Congressman from Illinois will introduce the House bill and the Senator from New York the other in the Senate. The issue now is how to handle future immigration?

Very, very true. But then again thwarting the will of the people was the intention of the Senate to begin with, for better or for worse. In this case, it is definitely for the worst.
