Reality check for many of the people on this forum.

Time to move on to plan B.

PASS THE DREAM ACT!

*Please no questions as to how that possible, I already got the moron of the week comment "if CIR fails, so does DREAM" epic fail, epic fail.

Perhaps it's because he knows its very difficult to fulfill promises , not to mention the crap he will get if an immigration reform does not succeed. Ultimately, it is not him who decides what gets passed.

We do need CIR to get into a fight so it can buffer DREAM and then we can come along with enforcement provisions.

S.Aran, I seriously hope you're not trying to quote me as idiot of the week. All I said was that if CIR is not brought up for debate for this year I wouldn't be surprised if Durbin decided to wait for CIR to be brought up next year or whenever.

Notice I said "I wouldn't be surprised if..."

I think we've all experienced enough disappointment by now that it's hard not to think that way.

With that said, given the chance, I know that the Dream Act can be passed into law this year if and when Durbin decide to push for it. Also, even though it's not worth much at this point, Obama did say that the Dream Act was something that he thought should be passed immediately.

Durbin is the ranking No.2 Democrat in the Senate and I read his answer to bringing up CIR this year - He is also of the persuasion that if the Repbs don't back it, then he won't bring it. Nice. If he really was committed to this, he would have pushed for it A YEAR AGO when it was reintroduced in the Senate and none of the political capital had been wasted. He benched it in favor of complete CIR. Wake up people.

When will you people understand that the government doesn't do things for when its convenient for us, but rather when its convenient for them. If they push for CIR right now, which seems like what's about to happen in April, CIR will surely fail. Mainly because health care will pass and Republicans and the conservative citizens will be pissed. So when they throw immigration at their faces, they'll be extra defensive of their "conservative beliefs" and will make it a point to take down CIR. Especially since they already hated the idea of a path to legalization in the first place. I mean, when you hate something are you going to start liking it while your pissed?

CIR will fail if they push for it right after health care reform passes. And if that happens they ain't working on CIR until the next president. NOW, the DREAM Act on the other hand, may have a chance. But only if they play the cards right. They have to push CIR and pass the DREAM, at the same time or right after they vote on CIR, on the down-low. That's the only way I see things happening this year.

This president only talks but wants to do nothing more than sign paperwork (aka, legislation). He undermined his own party by refusing to participate and work on Health Care legislation until now. He throws everyone under the bus; add immigrant families to the long list of p.o'd people right behind gays, single-payer activists, enviromentalists, and war abolishionists.

George Bush did more to pass immigration reform than him. Obama is a sell-out.

Pelosi has been Speaker since 2007 and nothing. While we did vote a cloture vote under the Dems, is not the end of the world to have Reps in charge. Unless we are going to have like 70 Dems in the Senate and 340 in the House, we must make a deal. We will hate the deal, but is the best we will get and doesn't matter if the Dems have a small or large majority.

That's kind of harsh don't you think, especially since you went all out on basically pointing out the person with quotations.

Senator Schumer has stated he wants CIR and not broken down pieces. I won't be surprised if immigration reform fails and then the DREAM Act doesn't get to see the bright of day. However, if the DREAM Act had a chance on the Senate floor then I believe it would succeed. That is only if it gets a chance, which I doubt, but truly hope for.
