this is a press release from Univision saying that they're going to having a debate over immigration that's going to air primetime on Friday. It's inviting other media outlets to show up too, but who knows if any English speaking stations will cover it. In the release, it says "English captions where available.". Anyway, figure I'd let at least the Spanish speaking people on here know.

Quote:
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of its commitment to represent the voice of the Hispanic community and serve as an invaluable source of information to millions of viewers, the Univision Network is furthering the debate on immigration in the U.S. with an exclusive poll, conducted in partnership with The Associated Press, which offers insights into the Hispanic community’s views on the government’s progress on immigration reform, as well Arizona’s recently passed SB 1070 law and its amendments, among other key issues. In addition, the network will host “Inmigración: Un Debate Nacional” (Immigration: A National Debate), a town hall event moderated by Univision News anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas at the Univision studios in Miami, FL and by local news anchor Mary Rabago from the studios of Univision affiliate KTVW-33 in Phoenix, AZ that will provide a platform for both sides to discuss key issues surrounding immigration policy in the U.S. The poll results will be revealed first on “Noticiero Univision” (Univision Network News) on Thursday, May 13 at 6:30pm ET/PT (5:30pm Central). “Inmigración: Un Debate Nacional” will air on Friday, May 14 at 10pm ET/PT (9pm Central). Media is invited to cover the event in Miami, FL and Phoenix, AZ.

The town hall will bring together some of the country’s most respected figures on immigration law and public policy, representatives of national Hispanic organizations as well as members of groups for and against immigration reform, members of the immigrant community, Arizona state and local government officials, a White House representative, and members of Congress to present diverse perspectives on how this issue touches every corner of America.

“The debate on immigration reform continues to be one of the most important issues for our community and we are happy to partner with The Associated Press on this poll to be able to present the current viewpoints of Hispanics around the country,” said Alina Falcón, president of news, Univision Communications Inc. “Additionally, with this town hall event we wish to provide a forum to debate these issues which are of vital importance to the daily lives of our viewers.”

“Immigración: Un Debate Nacional” will be closed-captioned in English on CC3 where available. The event will also be streamed live on Univision.com (keyword: Ley de Arizona) and simulcast on Univision’s sister radio network RadioCadena Univision.

" a White House representative"...you betcha. Where he/she will proceed to nod vigorously and say they are committed to getting CIR. Hahahahaha.

I intend to watch this, however, you have to ask what goal does it accomplish when it will be broadcast in Spanish to a community that alrady supports CIR.

I agree with you haha. But at least it's something. I don't see any English speaking stations doing anything besides the coverage they give to AZ and the shenanigans happening over there.
