I found the Yahoo user commentators to be overwhelmingly right-wing nutters. Is that the general consensus of the American people, or do liberals simply don't waste time posting?

i find that yahoo is generally skewed, and news comments in general.
so a bit of both. but if you visit yahoo answers, specifically the category of immigration, you'll find icons of cartoons peeing on the mexican flag and people being downright hateful. it's sad. i don't recommend a visit.

The best thing to do when replying to these comments is not to engage but rather inform. I'm going to create a post I can use in response to these, too often, inflammatory comments that break down the assumptions held in a lot of them, like how illegal immigrants come to feed off the welfare system, how they should just get in line like everyone else, etc, and especially how "the law is the law" is not a good enough justification.

Man this is real frustrating man not just for me, but for all of us. Im tired of this man really soon i will be moving out of AZ due to this, i mean i still drive and everything. We all want a better future right, if we want it we go out and get it man. We also are holding back and not going out there and get what we want we worry too much about working and all this stuff, the black did it right ? They got tired protested, got it, period . I mean there are thousands of us in our situation here in the states, dont you think if we all got out there and claimed our rights we would grab attention for sure and something would be done.

This is all i got to say

We need this type of attitude !

i do it because maybe someone will read it who have not made up their minds or are unsure of the situation. many of the inflammatory posts i come across say that immigrants are lazy, don't contribute anything to society, and are basically leeches.

well, then i respond with examples and things that i know a lot of these
commentators do care about and respect: military service.

people are proud to have their relatives and neighbors in military service, and people are proud that their immigrant forefathers served for this country and that makes this country their rightful home.

so i talk about how the government often promises citizenship in return, but that hundreds of veterans find themselves incarcerated and in deportation proceedings.

i don't pass judgment on what should be done; i flip it and ask, what are our thoughts on that?

i get little response. i get maybe thumb-downed but rarely harassed. if they do respond, they claim that i am lying, despite the news articles from unbiased sources that i provide. one woman wrote back that they should be in citizenship classes but are too lazy to. hrm. soldiers who go to iraq being too lazy. ok. and i leave it at that (with some information about aging-out and how people do get in line). but i know that for every response, there were 15 pairs of eyes that read it, and hopefully the issue becomes more human and the ones calling people "parasites" become less credible.

and people are curious. the first time i posted about it, 5 or so people out of the 7 who responded ask me for sources. the second time, 8 thumbs up, 1 down. the forums are where the fight for public opinion often is.

As a DREAMER I gotta admit I aways had some resentment towards anchor babies. When I got out of college, some of my anchor baby friends from Mexico that had never even lived in the USA until university got to hold great jobs. Some of them got jobs that required not only a green card but citizenship and a strict security clearance. What did I get? The finger by uncle Sam even though I'd lived in the states for 14 years, was completely assimilated into American culture, and spoke perfect English.

Now I'm not saying these guys did anything wrong, their parents simply exploited a law with a huge loophole in it. But I think its fair to deny citizenship to future anchor babies to correct this loop hole.

Countries like Australia don't hand out citizenship just because you're born on their soil if your parents aren't Aussies....just saying.
