Democratic Sen. Carl Levin said in a news conference that this was the first time senators had filibustered a defense bill -- legislation that historically brings together Democrats and Republicans. (Levin also said the DREAM Act, a controversial immigration proposal, would again be added as an amendment when senators try to pass the defense bill after the elections.)

I hope they don't insist on attaching this to the defense bill. It needs to be brought up as stand-alone like it did in 2007.

Call Reid and tell his dumb ass what needs to be done

I liked to believe one day it will pass. I don't think I can take another disappointment. Though I might say am getting rather use to.

Me TOO! I still don't understand why they don't bring it up as a stand alone bill, Why do they have to attach it to the Defense bill. I just don't get it. I feel I'm running out of time. I'm already 26! lol

My question is.....If it dosent have the votes as "stand alone"...Still they have to vote for it as an admenment.....So Isn't the same thing?

Someone Explain this...Thanks..and sorry lol

Stand alone isn't such a good idea. Believe it or not, these politicians do know what they are doing. A stand alone bill means the bill must be accepted for debate, something the Republicans won't allow because they will say this is not the right time for Dream, instead it's time for jobs and economy and what not. Let's say the bill does get past that...Great, now it's time to add amendments to the Dream act. Republicans will add more restricting provisions, or water down the bill (look at what was done to the health care bill, where's the public option?). They will also add amendments that are unrelated, but for the purpose of making Democrats to look bad for voting against them (this is exactly what happened with Representative Anthony Weiner and the 911 bill).

So stand alone means getting past Republican bullshit at the expense of losing Democrat support. But if the Dream Act is added as an amendment, it must pass AS IS. And frankly, we're pretty ok with the bill as is so there's nothing wrong with that. We just need that the actual bill that the Dream Act will amend be passed first, then the Dream Act can be voted by itself with no amendments. But the defense bill wasn't passed so we need to wait for another bill for the Dream to amend.

Hey Thanks "Sourfish"
I understand better why is a good idea to just attach Dream Act to another bill.
True that...if it goes alone, they might change a lot of things, like gap age etc....
