I wrote this to Senator Hutchinson, putting it here as a resource so people can use it to help them. I didn't form these arguments, I only repackaged them to make them more catchy.

Quote:
Can DREAM beneficiaries sponsor aunts, uncles or cousins? No.

Even when DREAM beneficiaries attain citizenship, they can never sponsor their aunts/uncles or cousins. Immigration law doesn’t allow it. (emphasis mine, source: http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/DRE...ons.pdf#page=3)

Can DREAM beneficiaries sponsor their own parents or siblings who entered the country illegally? Almost never.

Beneficiaries will be unable to sponsor their parents. Immigration law bars entry for parents and siblings who entered the country illegally. (Source: (http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/DRE...ons.pdf#page=3)

Only one set of people can be sponsored: siblings and parents who did not enter the country illegally. Guess how long it would take to complete the process?

24 years. That's right. It takes 13 years and numerous obstacles for a DREAM beneficiary to become a US Citizen. It takes 11 years on top of that for the US Citizen to sponsor a sibling. (Source: (http://www.nolo.com/legal-encycloped...cle-29561.html)

Senator Hutchinson, I hope you see now. There is no risk of chain migration, and we cannot use it as an excuse to keep people living in fear. We are waiting to live, we are waiting to exist. Our hopes depend on your vote.
