Illinois' own Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who is leading the fight for comprehensive immigration reform in Congress, is heading to Phoenix on Sunday to protest the signing of Arizona Senate Bill 1070. The new law would allow law enforcement to question anyone that they reasonably suspect of being in the country illegally. From a statement released by Gutierrez yesterday:

Quote:
I call on all justice loving Americans to join us in Phoenix. Join us in denouncing this law, join us in calling for its veto, and join us in standing up against hatred when people paint all immigrants and all Latinos as criminals. In so doing, we will be living by a fundamental truth articulated by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We need to take a stand.

I admire Gutierrez so much. I will be eternally grateful to him if this is a success.

Hey guys...

I posted something about this on the action thread.

Please check it out, it's also a petition to push for CIR.

Al Sharpton has come out and said he's ready to go there too.
