First Lady Michelle Obama called on the Latino community to put pressure on Republicans to support comprehensive immigration legislation.

In an interview with Univision, the first lady said President Obama wanted to pass immigration legislation, but could not find enough support among Republicans to move a bill.

The DREAM Act, a bill to give undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children and are pursuing higher education an opportunity to become U.S. citizens, had little support among Republicans, she said. The latest attempt to pass the legislation failed in December.

“So I urge the Latino community, he needs help, he's got to have Republicans and Democrats in Congress who are going to step up,” the first lady said. “If a sound immigration bill gets put on the President's desk he is going to sign it. But it’s got to get through Congress. He can't do it alone.”

Asked if the president pushed hard enough to pass an immigration bill, the first lady defended her husband.

“Immigration reform has been at the top of my husband's agenda from the minute he thought about running for this office,” she said, adding later, “But people have to know that the President can't pass immigration reform without the support of Congress and we don't have that.”

Why doesn't Michelle Obama just pressure her husband to do his job? This is easier said than done. We've been pressuring GOP senators for a really long time. What did we get in return? One republican cosponsor of the bill voting no, one republican who once championed a CIR bill with Ted Kennedy voting no, one republican senator voting no even after weeks and weeks of hunger strikes in front of her office, two moderate republican senators voting no even after repeated calls to their offices.

Some one please ask her this:

1). Where was her husband when his party had complete control of both house and senate for 2 yrs?

2). Why Obama did not had complete suport for DA from his own party??.... Why he didnt use same magic that he used for Health Care to get his own party in line?.

3) Why Obama thinks there is not enough suport for immigrtaion at this time??.....If you can pass Health Care without single republicans vote then why can't you pass immigration with atleast 5 republicans (Lugar,Graham,Murkowaski,Snow,Collins) many more possible(Mccain,Hatch,Hutchison,Kirk(IL))??????

4). Why Obama can't do samething what Bush did?

I think Bush was way more powerfull president then Obama specially on immigration Issue.

Oh ok nevermind all of his latest efforts then to actually pass legislation that was voted on that almost got full passage just shy of six votes from either a couple democrats or an assload of republicans

They aren't going to pass immigration the American people would revolt.
It will happen this year because the GOP's need a comeback. They won't win the election if CIR/DA does not pass.

Not trying to be a pessimist but CIR and Dream Act for sure are dead until further notice. Look at all the anti-immigrant bills state wide. We are being squeezed like an anaconda squeezes its prey. A miracle is needed.
