I thought this article was fairly interesting for many reasons.

1.Many Dreamers are interested in getting a license.
2.The President's Uncle is technically a 'Dreamer' because he came to the US when he was younger and went to school here.
3.The President's Uncle is valid for something called Registry[if you meet the criteria it is almost an automatic green card if you came before 1972].It is extremely rear that anyone qualifies for this.It was also the subject of debate here on DAP on if the President could use an Executive Order to change the year!
4.The President's Uncle was charged with a DUI and ICE "supposedly" is pursuing his removal from the US because he had a prior Deportation order from 1992.
5.The President's Aunt was recently approved Asylum based on having a "credible fear" for her safety in a country where the President is very popular.......not to mention she also had a deportation order.
Quote:
Just a week after President Obama's uncle pleaded guilty to drunk driving and surrendered his driver's licence, he's back behind the wheel.

Onyango Obama, 67, was approved for a 'hardship licence' yesterday, which allows him to drive in Massachusetts from noon to midnight.

The Boston Herald reported that Obama, the half brother of the president's father, convinced a Registry of Motor Vehicles panel that an inability to drive would adversely affect his job as a liquor store manager.

And, despite his status as an illegal immigrant, his request was approved.

RMV spokeswoman Sara Lavoie told the Herald: 'He met all of the criteria'.

Obama surrendered his driving license for 45 days after entering a plea at a drunk-driving hearing last week.

There, he acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him without pleading guilty. Two other violations were dismissed.

Obama, of Kenya, is also appealing a deportation order that dates to 1992, when he failed to renew his application to remain in the U.S.

The drunken driving charge will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for a year, officials said.

Obama was arrested in Framingham in August after a police officer said he made a rolling stop at a stop sign and nearly caused the officer's cruiser to crash into his sport utility vehicle.

Once pulled over, the DA said Obama’s speech was slurred, 'his eyes were red and glassy and there was an odor of alcohol coming from inside the motor vehicle.'

Obama then failed several field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol was almost twice over the legal limit, reports the Herald.

His attorney attorney, P. Scott Bratton, told the Herald: 'He felt it was in his best interest to put this behind him. 'He wants to return to his normal, quiet existence in society.'

Reports at the time claimed that Obama pleaded not guilty to the drunk driving charges and said he would 'call the White House' when he was arrested

Bratton said Obama has had no contact with the White House about the case.

The thing is, if he's the president's relative and he gets deported, then he has a very high chance to get kidnapped and then held hostage for ransom. It's not very "fair" to all the other illegals, but it makes perfect sense.

gtfoutta here with that bullsh*t.

Some of us are from countries where if the locals see us with American accent, they are subject to kidnapping (luckily not me). Some of us are from war-torn countries and still denied asylum.

This mother f*cker (Obama) is abusing his power.

And this piece of sh*t has a history of DUI. He puts not only himself but other people in harms way. And his driver license is approved without documentation. Meanwhile some of us REALLY need a driver's license. Are you f*cking kidding me?

It's interesting how Obama's relatives that have violated the law as adults, like his aunt blatantly ignoring her Deportation Order(s), and his uncle recklessly drunk driving get to stay and are awarded Green Cards at the end of the day. On the other hand, most of us here have no criminal records, do our best to be model and productive members of the society (have done so since childhood), yet no one wants to give us a break.

I guess my siblings that were born here need to run for office so that I can get a Green Card, I should have no problems getting one since I have a great record and stay out of trouble.

Because there are many of us and most of us are completely not notable in any respect. Given how there are some extenuating circumstances in their cases, I can completely understand why their petitions/etc have been granted.

You know, I bet if you had a really good lawyer and some chunk of change laying around, you could get the immigration system to give you a waiver as well.

I'm sorry, but his aunt and uncle are not exactly "notable," they're most likely going to depend on the government to provide them with assistance. I thought the US doesn't like recent Green Card recipients depending on the govt. for assistance; wasn't his aunt in public housing, and isn't his uncle already a senior citizen? Last time I checked, that'd mean govt. assistance of some sort. We are more notable as we are young enough to work and contribute to the system, not take from it from day one, I'm just saying.

I agree with you on the money and lawyer situation, I've never heard of wealthy people worrying about their immigration statuses. I guess so far, this is the hand that we've been dealt in life....

if Obama's uncle DUI and still get a driver's license, I should have one. But I don't. It's unfair. Enough said.

No offense but this means I should be eligible for the same waiver as Obama's aunt and uncle received since I'm from the same country. I'm about to go apply for asylum right now lol. Hope they don't bitchslap me back for good. Seriously though why can't the rules apply to everyone?
