Aguilar said the Nevada Hispanics organization does not support “draconian” Arizona-style immigration laws, and he criticized the Obama administration’s relatively high rate of deportations. Aguilar said he supported the current form of the Dream Act but that a revised version expected from Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., had a better chance of passing.
“It’s an interesting message they are sending about victimization when we think about (GOP presidential hopeful Mitt) Romney, who wants to use what’s happening in Arizona as a model for immigration here, and that turns our people into criminals, separates their families and in essence creates a state of fear and panic where people are going to hide and retreat,” said Edith Fernandez, an Obama supporter who attended the event.
Fernandez said Nevada Hispanics’ statements on immigration do not align with Romney’s. Fernandez also balked at the idea posed by Aguilar that it was Obama and the Democrats who failed to pass immigration reform.
Quote:
“It’s time to say, ‘Enough with the lies, you failed us on immigration reform, and you are the most anti-immigrant president in the history of the United States,’” Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, said to loud applause from the group gathered at the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce.

I know it's a ridiculous claim, but Obama's lack of leadership on this issue and his record deportation is really opening himself up to these attacks . He has been focusing on enforcement just to please republicans, but in turn they will use it against him to try to convince Latino voters to stay home. The idea that focusing on only border security and enforcement will somehow cause republicans in congress to have a change of heart and support CIR or dream act is just silly. I wonder who advises the president when it comes to these immigration issues.

Quote:
The Obama administration's deportation policy has prompted anger from other Latino leaders, and a Pew Hispanic Center poll released in December found that Latinos disapprove of the Obama administration's deportation policy by a two-to-one margin. The poll also found that just 25 percent of native-born Latinos knew deportations were higher under Mr. Obama than under his predecessor - something Aguilar says his effort is designed to change.

Administration officials say they have focused on deporting illegal immigrants who are criminals while allowing compassionate treatment of illegal immigrants who otherwise follow the law, a claim that Aguilar says doesn't hold up to scrutiny. "If you look at the [Department of Homeland Security] numbers, almost 60 percent of those being deported have no criminal record whatsoever," he said. The Obama campaign did not respond to a request for a response to Aguilar's comments.

I don't think it is a ridiculous claim at all. Look at his record.

Obama is for enforcement-only immigration laws when the person(s) on the receiving end is anybody but his aunt and uncle. His aunt illegally lived in housing meant for Green Card holders or USCs, let's not forget that she totally ignored any deportation orders, yet she ended up with a Green Card. Obama's uncle was intoxicated when he was arrested, not exactly model citizen behavior, yet he was given back his license, and I'm sure he'll end up getting a Green Card too.

If these two not-so-upstanding individuals can end up with Green Cards, then why not do the same for Dreamers? It's very hypocritical of this administration to be quite honest.

I will not be surprised if Obama gets booed by some Latinos when he mentions the issue of immigration during upcoming debates. We have had enough of his fucking rhetoric. ENOUGH.

Honestly, I think it's to put up or shut up.

What his advisers fail to realize is that having immigrant/Latino support is one thing. Turnout in November is another. And he can't bank on the fact that Romney said he supports self-deportation. Because we all know that once those debates hit Romney will Etch-A-Sketch himself to a moderate position and Obama will look the fool.

It's not like you have any other choice. At least Obama backs CIR, Romney does not.

You know whom you are supposed to stand behind then.

Supporting and being able to pass shyt are two different things. Obama has proven he is not capable of doing the latter. Therefore, Executive Order is the only option he has. He is not going to have the necessary votes in Congress to pass CIR. Romney will not mention the word Immigration if he is elected let alone pass anything. Once again, this Rubio bill or EO are the ONLY two ways that could be adopted to move forward with immigration reform.

How do you know that? The former Governor has flipped and flopped everywhere and quite a few immigration restrictionist have publicly said,"They don't trust him!".....on the same note,I don't trust you're an "immigrant" at all!

What makes the President specifically ridiculous isn't about so called "CIR" and maybe some aren't making the argument as potent as it should. The most potent argument for how ridiculous the current President as it pertains to 'Dreamers' specifically is that he is claiming ignorance of the law and Executive order relief as a former Harvard Law grad AND former Junior Senator of Illinois. The issue of DREAM Act first took premise in Illinois where it was quite clear why the senior Senator of Illinois,Richard Durbin, introduced the act and continues to do so.....need I say more!

Damn Ianus spittin major knowledge. Shits getting serious. Immigrant doesn't understand that the first immigrants to migrate to this country did not have "STEM" degrees. Yet they managed to build this country up to the superpower it is today.
