Could someone please explain the purpose of advancing the driver's license bill? Perhaps, I did not understand something on the DMV website. But, can't we still get a damn driver's license if we are granted deferred action?!

It's either a politcially symbolic bill. Or, it is intended to prevent a xenophobic governor from taking away the benefit without approval by the state legislature.

None. Cali already takes I-766 Employment Authorization Documents as proof of legal status for drivers' licenses.

It's probably to solidify and make it that there's no argument that they can throw.
All they have to say now that it's the law and end of argument!

California requires specific documents to be produced to obtain one, however, and those expected to be distributed by the federal program are not on the state's list.
Oh really, Sacramento Bee?

And I'm afraid the headlines "Brown gives illegals licenses" will have some sort of backlash. Probably not, but after being illegal for a while, paranoia is second nature.
