Hi, if you live in the area a lot of campuses are doing so join them or us.
.....
Dear Friends of IDEAS at UCLA,
IDEAS at UCLA would like to invite you to support us this upcoming Wednesday, February
28th. Undocumented students throughout the state will be taking a stance. The "AB540
Network", which is composed of 21 student organizations, will be presenting the kickoff
to a DREAM ACT campaign that will hopefully culminate in the creation of a legalization
process for millions of deserving immigrant students throughout the country.
From CSU San Marcos and UC San Diego in the south to CSU Chico and UC Berkeley up north,
these college groups of undocumented students have organized to let their campuses and
their legislators know about the dire need for a viable legalization process.
At UCLA, IDEAS will be holding a mock graduation that will represent the difficult
transition from successful college student to undocumented graduates that we face. We
will also have an open picture exhibit representing our involvement in campus life, as
well as music and spoken word performances. Students will share their testimonies and
faculty members will speak about their experience with them.
You and your organization can support us by joining us, this Wednesday at 12PM at
Meyerhoff Park. Attendees are encouraged to wear caps and gowns if they want to be part
of the graduation and help us represent the thousands of students who can't pursue their
careers each year because of their legal status. We also ask that, in order to highlight
the exhibit, people refrain from other forms of demonstration, such as signs or flags of
any kind.
Is there something else that we can do for all of us that can't go to it, because of distance problems? Maybe we can write letters on the same day to our representatives. Or what if we mail you graduation caps as a symbol of our presence there. Any other ideas will be great. So DREAMies please give your ideas. Please not ALL at the same time.
