Quote:
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) called the current immigration system “broken” and said a reform bill would help address future labor shortages in the United States.

“Not now but in the future we’re gonna have labor shortages,” Ryan said in a contentious interview with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday. “Immigration in a decade or so can help us. That means we need to get an immigration system that works.”

Ingraham was critical of the Congressional Budget Office’s report saying that the Senate’s bill would reduce the federal deficit by $175 billion in the first ten years, calling it “painful” and saying that it will actually cause wages to decrease over the next several years.

“Laura, that’s what we have right now. We have de facto amnesty right now,” Ryan shot back, addressing Ingraham’s concern that the bill will hurt the American middle class by flooding the workplace. “We have people who can cross the border and get a job with no consequences right now.”

“That’s not our fault, that’s y’all’s fault,” Ingraham responded. “That’s the government’s fault.”

“That’s why we need a law to fix this,” Ryan said. “We have a broken system.”

Ryan has consistently said he supported immigration reform, highlighting the positive economic effects of an overhaul. “Fixing our broken immigration system could help our economy grow. A proper accounting of immigration reform should take into account these dynamic effects,” Ryan said in May.

Ryan also clarified that the House version of an immigration bill will look different than its current iteration in the Senate.

“We’re not going to vote on the Senate bill over here in the House,” Ryan said. “We’ve gotta get this job right in the House.”

“What’s the value of having the majority in the House if you don’t use it?” he asked.
I have to say I like that last quote.

We're not going to vote on the senate bill... Fucking clown representatives.. The senate put so much work and thought and effort into their bill and these clowns probably won't even bring it to a vote.. Pathetic

I think he means the Senate bill won't have to be brought to the floor of the House (since the House will have its own bill) but it'll eventually be dealt with at the conference level.
