An immigration advocacy group is dinging Hillary Clinton over immigration-related comments the possible presidential contender made this week.

United We Dream blasted out a statement on Wednesday asking whether Clinton, a Democrat, stands with President Barack Obama —whom it refers to as the “deporter-in-chief” — or “our families,” and derided recent remarks from Clinton as “muddled.”
“If separating children from families is not who we are as Americans, then Hillary Clinton should join other Democratic leaders in calling on President Obama to take executive action to provide relief and reform for families still under the threat of deportation,” urged Cristina Jimenez, managing director of the organization, in a statement.

On Tuesday, during a town hall meeting hosted by CNN, Clinton expressed support for comprehensive immigration reform. But she also said, with regard to children who attempt to enter America without their parents: “We have to send a clear message [that] just because your child gets across the border doesn’t mean your child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message contrary to our laws or encourage more to come.”

The statement from United We Dream, however, zeroed in on her remark that “the numbers have been moderating” when asked about immigrant families being separated due to deportation policies. That comment, the organization charged, “is at odds with the realities faced by too many of our families.”
