Good news, the 2nd DACA arrested for marijuana possession has been released. As this is not a significant misdemeanor, it is good to hear.

Quote:
UPDATE: Josue Romero was released by immigration officials Thursday evening.

Jail records show that Romero was booked Wednesday for possession of two ounces or less of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. Deferred action can be revoked for committing a “significant misdemeanor,” which in the case of drug charges usually involves allegations of trafficking or distribution.

A spokeswoman for ICE said she was researching Romero’s case in response to questions from the Express-News.

I was hoping for the same.

I am really glad this happened.

Great.

Does that mean that one stupid time 10 years ago when I was 17 and hanging out with bad company, and I got arrested for a petty Marijuana possession (even tho it wasn't mine) charge , but they dismissed and Sealed my case if I stay out of trouble for 6 months.

In ny, it's a very low crime, basically a traffic infraction. Any that's the only thing on my record. But they let this dreamer go, so it makes me very pleased about my situation.

They should've deported his ass. Plenty of non-stoner hard-working folks getting detained and shipped back.

Hmm...I didn't realize that. That's strange since he has DACA...what's the point of having him check in?

So that he doesn't get into more trouble. It would be like me having to take a drug test every two weeks. Why would they do it periodically, so that I don't do drugs and stay clean.

I don't see this as comparable. And to what end? Have him check in in the hopes DACA ends and they can the proceed with deportation?

Anyway, the first step was to get him out of detention and at least that was accomplished.
