Hi Everyone,

I've been a member of the DAP a long time, and although I think I've only written once or twice, it's been one of my emotional and mental life savers - especially when I'm really struggling with the frustrations of being a young, undocumented person.

However, I am incredibly blessed and fortunate enough to still have had a relatively good life despite the occasional difficulties, which I know everyone here understands. I'm 22 years old and female, and my mom brought me over to the US when I was 5, and we overstayed our visas. My older brother was born in the US few years before I was, which is lucky, because he was able to sponsor my mom when he turned 21 just a few years ago. My mom has just received her green card, so now, it's my turn to be sponsored (it can go sibling-parent, but not sibling-sibling). But I'm sure as most of you know, it's an incredibly long and complicated process, with no definite end or resolution.

Anyway, right now I'm in journalism school in New York City. I'm receiving my M.S. and all students have to do a Master's Project. Mine will be on the struggle of young, undocumented citizens in this country. In my opinion, we don't get nearly enough coverage. Additionally, my thesis advisor is a former Cuban immigrant herself, and knows my entire situation and is so incredibly supportive. She is a Pulitzer-Prize winning author and an expert on immigration, and she's so excited about my project because "if she hears one more immigration story on illegal adults who have just crossed the border and wait on street corners for work in Brooklyn/Queens, she'll scream." Not to trivialize those people's situations, but what about us? What about us young, educated people whose parents brought us over to this country for a better life, only to have that life completely truncated? What about those of us who went to high school and worked super hard to pay our parents back for their sacrifices and efforts, only to sit at home completely limited despite our limitless abilities?

My thesis is going to be more of a human interest piece than a political piece, and possible be published (if it's good enough!). Obviously, real names are not necessary (although if you're comfortable, that's great). Just remember that I am like you guys, and essentially, I'm not above you in any way - that is, there's no way I can report you, because hey - you could just report me right back! It's really the perfect situation.

Anyway, I'm going to focus on young undocumented persons in New York, DC, and NJ (I have to choose places close enough so I can interview you and follow up in person) who are bright, educated, and have nowhere to go and nothing to do until new laws are passed.

It's a 5,000 word piece, so hopefully I can get around 3 or 4 of you, and diversity too - all races, ethnicities, ages, genders, situations, etc.

I know it's a bit iffy, and some of you are paranoid about people posing to be ALIPAC on these forums, but I assure you, I am NOT ALIPAC. If you're not comfortable posting so publicly, please send me a personal message, and we'll keep in touch that way.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks so much in advance. You guys are the best.
