House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin has said he supports resolving the status of Dreamers, but he says any legislative solution also must address the root causes of illegal immigration. Ryan appointed a Republican task force to consider the issue.

"I think we'll fix this problem in the next two to three months," Representative Joe Barton, a Republican from Texas, told VOA Tuesday, describing his expectations for the task force's work.

Barton became the fourth House Republican — and 200th co-sponsor — to sign on to the DREAM Act. He also is a co-sponsor of the Recognizing America's Children (RAC) Act, Florida Republican Representative Carlos Curbelo's proposal.

But Barton told VOA on Tuesday that he would not be signing the Democrats' discharge petition to force a floor vote on the DREAM Act.

".On this, I think the Judiciary Committee and the Homeland Security Committee will act, so I don't think you need a discharge petition," he said

DACA issue could have a significant impact on Congress' looming December budget negotiations if not resolved, Representative Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat from Illinois and an outspoken supporterof Dreamers, warned Monday at a Capitol Hill rally.

"Either you have the majority for your Republican budget by December 9th with your votes or you negotiate with the Democrats to get those votes on the basis of justice for our immigrant community," Gutierrez said.

pretty big statement coming from a Freedom Caucus member.

if all options fails, e.g: clean dream act, DA + Border Sec., discharge petition.

it will be Dream Act attached to government funding, debt ceiling, or military reauthorization.

DECEMBER.

Thank you Congressman Gutierrez, I know he'll fight like hell for us.

I had no idea that guy was from the Freedom Caucus, that's important. The only sane member from that group is Justin Amash.

it's 10-13 years to become USC.

1st. initial acceptance to program (8 years to complete requirements) conditional GC.

2nd. apply to change your status to permanent GC once you have 2 yr degree/military service/work exp (2-3 years)

3rd. apply for adjustment of status to citizen

unlike SUCCEED ACT which takes 15-20 years. yikes!

15 yrs to get to permanent gc alone. Sad!

It sounds DA grandfathers your work seniority, it's perfect then. Unfortunately Dick is meeting with Tillis and Lankford so DA might get harsher

You make no damn sense. No one knows what will come out of his meeting with them .

Don’t you folks get tired of always assuming the negative?

And what's wrong with assuming the negative? It's let's people prepares for the worst. Look at the succeed Act. Before people here knew it's details, 2MoreYears was screaming to pass it already then he learned it waives our immigrational right away and changed his mind. Nothing wrong with being cautious. No matter how positive or negative we are, it's not going to pass or impede a bill from being put up for voting
