Hi All,

Hope all is well and you're staying safe. If we were to obtain the permanent residency later this year, when do you think is a good time during the process to get a legal name change?

I want to change my foreign name to an American name but wondering if you would after obtaining the green card and then apply for a legal name change in the court, or is there a way to get it changed during the application process.

Any advice or comments is appreciated!

Yeah, that's the safest and cheapest option. Don't do it now.

You can do it at any point. If you're just adjusting then you'd include the name change decree with the I-485, otherwise you'd file I-90 to get a new green card with the updated name.

Finally, you can do it while naturalizing, there's a field for it on the N-400.
