Amid the focus on the southern border, congressional Democrats are mobilizing on several pieces of legislation that would construct a pathway to legal status for millions of people living in the country.

This week the House will begin consideration of two bills aimed at amending the immigration system, according to the office of Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md.

The first, the American Dream and Promise Act, would establish a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children — otherwise known as "DREAMers." It would also include a pathway to citizenship for people granted Temporary Protected Status, along with those who were recipients of Deferred Enforced Departure as of Jan. 20, 2021.

The House will also consider the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which would create a system in which workers in the agricultural industry could earn temporary status with an eventual option to become a permanent resident. It also would amend the existing H-2A temporary agricultural worker visa program.

Both bills have strong support from Democrats, and passed the lower chamber in 2019.

They represent a more targeted approach at passing immigration legislation than Biden's comprehensive immigration proposal — the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 — which could face significant opposition among Republicans in the Senate.

They will not succeed this time. Joey is aggressive with his agenda and immigration is next up. If anything, the border crisis actually should make them act quicker not slow down.

Assuming all Democrats vote yes and they remove or reform the filibuster rule, then yes.

That is essentially a no.. The border issue needs to be resolved quickly or it may sway public sentiment against our cause and that can kill any bill. The GOP right now is trying to link what's happening at the border with any kind of immigration reform and to dreamers..

It is not guaranteed all 50 Dems will be voting Yes. We should expect 5-6 no votes.

60 votes are going to be needed, that is the end game.

I just don't understand why thousands of people are just able to barge in like that? I'm not trying to be insensitive but this is getting a little out of hands. We can forget about any reform at this point.

Its outrageous. Dems need to make it clear that in their upcoming reform bill there will be strong requirements only favoring those who have been here for a long time otherwise everyone and their mother will set off for America ...
