https://www.floridapolicy.org/posts/...-under-sb-1718

Under legislation introduced in the Florida Senate (CS/SB 1718), any person who knowingly and willfully assists or attempts to assist an immigrant without a documented status could be charged with a felony offense.

The Fiscal Policy Committee is scheduled to take up the measure on Tuesday. If it moves forward and ends up signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, SB 1718 would go into effect on July 1.

The sponsor of the bill, Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-District 11), said he hopes the bill will put pressure on the federal government to fix what he says is a broken immigration system. He also said he hopes other states, like Texas, will move similar bills forward.

________

ACLU is on it at least:

You do realize that Rhonda Santis would still be governor of Florida with a republican state house and senate with Trump in office, right?

You make even less sense than Log Cabin Republicans, like really, why do you shill for people that'll always hate you? Right now they do it because you're illegal, if you got status from an amnesty they'd hate you for not doing it all "the right way", if you got it via some other means they'd hate you for "exploiting loopholes", if you'd go back in time and make your parents not fuck up they'd still hate you for being the wrong shade of white.

ok so? lets use the brain, with Trump in office the repubs get that false sense of Trump doing "something" in regards of immigration thus causing states to stand down on sht like this.

Yeah I'm sure that him eventually managing to kill DACA after being told how to by the Supreme Court (i.e follow the APA to the letter) would be so much better than this bill which doesn't even include us. But yeah yeah Orange Man good.

The reality is that this has 0 to do with enforcing the rules of law regarding immigration and more to do with DeSantis's bid for the presidency.

If Florida, a state that relies on illegal immigration labor, passes this, then they have to face the consequences.
