It looks like the state of New Jersey is considering in-state tuition & driver's license privileges to the undocumented.
Quote:

TRENTON, N.J. - A panel advising Governor Jon Corzine on immigrant issues is considering recommending the state allow undocumented immigrants "driver privilege cards" and in-state college tuition rates.

Two Hispanic leaders have told the Record of Bergen County that the state's public advocate, Ron Chen, told them the measures would be included in a panel's report to Corzine.

But a spokeswoman for Chen told the newspaper that it hasn't been decided what would be included in the report.

The "driver privilege cards" and in-state tuition would need legislative approval before becoming law. Groups that support tighter immigration control have said they'd oppose the measures.

Corzine assembled a panel on immigrant rights with the idea of passing comprehensive immigration reform.

That would be great, it would make obtaining a DL on the East Coast so much easier. I really wish NY would follow suit, but with Twatterson in the office, it is highly unlikely.

I saw this one the news yesterday, im not hispanic but i saw it on Univision lol.

Only thing about this that would be even better would be if the licenses looked exactly the same without those big red letters that pretty much tell anyone who looks at ur license "IM ILLEGAL BUT I CAN DRIVE!" lol. I guess beggars cant be choosers, but those letters are a bummer.

This is from Texas, but this applies anywhere..

Lol this is very true. I thought about that but you said it yourself, beggars can't be choosers.

It will call for discrimination but at least we have a right to drive and no matter how much the cop that pulls us over hates us, he can only check the driving permit, bite his tongue, and walk away.

Or he can talk all the shit he wants about it, and then it will be his word against yours or mine in court when you file a discrimination suit (which we'll probably lose) lol

Yeah we would probably lose but you know what? Today i was thinking about something and i was thinking about how all of this would make sense and how would it be possible that a cop knows we're illegal because of our license and doesnt throw us to ICE so i began to ponder on it and then i started thinking that maybe a law will pass along with this prohibiting cops to use that against us. They could use whatever else they want but they cant send us to ICE with the reason being: "The driver has a driving privilege card, therefore he's illegal"

They tried this in NY but didn't go any where. Its a petty liberal state and immigrant friendly.
