“No.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said “no” three times, when she was asked on Sunday about a “grand bargain on immigration” in which Democrats would agree to fund President Trump’s border wall, if Republicans agree to legal status for millions of people who entered the United States illegally.

“Is there a possibility for the two sides, even on an issue like immigration to come together? Money for the wall but also a path to citizenship?” Jonathan Karl, guest host of ABC’s “This Week,” asked Pelosi.

“No,” Pelosi said.

“No?” Karl asked.

“No,” Pelosi repeated. “No, I mean, we already had a bipartisan bill out of the United States Senate.” She said the bill introduced early in the Obama administration would have passed, but “House Republicans failed to bring it up.”

“So, there is a path,” Pelosi continued. “We don’t have to pay for us to do the right thing as a country. And overwhelmingly, the American people support a path to citizenship, for the people who are in our country. We have to protect our borders; that is our responsibility as a nation, north and south.”

Pelosi said she opposes charging the American people “tens of billions of dollars” for a border wall, which would reduce funding for Democrat priorities.

Congress has finally reached bipartisan agreement on a massive spending bill that will keep the government running through the end of the fiscal year.

The bill contains no money for Trump’s long-promised border wall; but it does include $15 billion to start rebuilding the military. It continues taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood; and it does not revoke federal grants for sanctuary cities.

The legislation provides a total of $1.163 trillion for operations of the federal government.

Her point is we should be able to pass immigration reform without wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on the wall. The political climate is nowhere near that happening, so it is disappointing to hear that the democrats won't even think about a compromise. Then again the Republicans for 8 years were not willing to compromise either, so they aren't any better. Even if Pelosi said she would be open, who says the Republicans would be willing to give CIR for wall funding?

Makes sense. They may want to help us, but they still have to think About the voters. Doubt they'll screw over their own base to help us.

Exactly. I haven't read anything about the Republicans being willing to come to the table on legalization for the entire undocumented population. The reporters were reaching with that question to begin with.
