You update your records with the Social Security administration to remove the "Valid for Work with DHS Authorization" wording when y you have proof of a conditional, 10 year green card or I-551 Stamp. You will get the wording removed for an unrestricted Social Security number.

With that SSN, you wouldn't need your green card for employment and whosoever uses your SSN will know of your green card status if checks are needed.

Same applies after you get Naturalization, BTW.

Once you receive your green card, you can go to the SS OFFICE and request a new unrestricted ss card... Basically one without that little sentence "for work authorization only" as well as an actual full length Drivers license. No more 2 years DL for example in CA.

Clean bill of health! One more thing crossed off the AOS to-do list.

Also, question:
Did y'all include pictures, letters to each other, etc. when you submitted the initial packet? I don't know if we should frontload the immigration officers with a lot of the bona-fide-relationship evidence or if we should wait for the interview.

Hey thanks for the replies. Another question. Does anyone have the I-130 prior to the 2/27/17 updated version downloaded already that they can post or send me please? The older edition (12/23/16) according to the USCIS website is still usable until 4/28/17. I wanted to compare and see if a lot has changed or maybe if the older version is simpler.

I think forms do not typically changed drastically from one version to the next. Just file with whatever version is available online, and you should be okay.

I would think that if you signed the older version prior to the new one being published (i.e. any time before April 28, 2017), then you can feel confident with using it.

Ive been together with my girlfriend for almost 6 years now. Shes a USC and we are planning to get married soon. How long does it take to get the green card? and im guessing citizenship takes about 5 years? I came here and overstayed my visa.

It can take from 4-9 months.. Just depends on your luck but from what I've seen the sweet spot on the forums is 6-8 months. As for US Citizenship you can apply for US citizenship 2 years and 9 months after receiving your green card..

Yes, the process can take ~4.5-10 months from initial filing to Residency in hand.

From initial filing of green card application to taking the oath ceremony when seeking naturalization through US citizen spouse; provided everything is filed properly and with no issues- ~3 years 8months to 4 years-4 months.
