Seems every democrat has their own dream act-like bill to their name.

I have a feeling they know the bills won't pass, it's just a strategy to gain more votes. It makes them look more sympathetic to these groups of people through their "actions". It's just politics.

*update for hope act on page 1.

Has 116 co-sponsors

this one is a bit different though, its up to the states to give us residency.
they are doing EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO HELP. ALL OPTIONS ARE ON THE TABLE.

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to permit States to determine State residency for higher education purposes and to authorize the cancellation of removal and adjustment of status of certain aliens who are United States residents and who entered the United States as children, and for other purposes.

116 Co-Sponsors but they're all democrats it could backfire on them because the republicans would deem the bill to be too broad since it would legalize anyone who arrived under 18 before December 2016. I really hope the democrats stop with the amnesty for all or none mentality and compromise. All these 116 democrats need to sign up to each DACA related bill out there

Huh...I wonder how that would work with the states deciding. Interesting idea.

Also 2 more cosponsors for dream act in the house

We all know Arizona and Texas would oppose that along with all the rascist southern states. So before the 1996 immigration act that passed under President Clinton states were able to grant residency ?

I think you guys are interpreting this wrong. The bill is proposing giving the states the power of determining who gets classified as a resident for tuition purposes to see who pays in-state tuition in their state universities, not that each state would determine whether or not we can get an EAD or a green card.

Looking only at the title of the bill, here's how you break it down:

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996
  • to permit States to determine State residency for higher education purposes
  • and
  • to authorize the cancellation of removal and adjustment of status of certain aliens who are United States residents and who entered the United States as children
  • and for other purposes.
There are states that already grant in-state tuition to non-residents, but it's through loopholes that pretty much give you a "scholarship" that cover the out-of-state tuition part for Dreamers. You remain a non-resident for tuition purposes, however.

The part we care about, of course, is the cancellation of removal, as that is exactly what would allows us to adjust our status and get PR. And that's determined at the federal level. This bill is not proposing changes to that process.

That make more sense.

U idiots they are introducing all these bills to show that republicans are racist trolls. They have broad ones and limited ones to make an example of them.
