Bill Gates supports revamping the immigration system to allow for more highly skilled IT workers to come in. Perhaps we should join together and write to him in order to bring DREAM to his attention?

I've found this, but I'm not sure if that is the right place to send letters like these. Anybody else know where we can contact Bill Gates/Microsoft?

We need DREAM but also H-1 visas, however I don't think they produce the same results. Most of us are children of immigrants so we are drawn to the sciences and while we would fulfill some of the need for H-1 visa, we aren't enough.

Microsoft wants engineering talent and as much as it pains me to say this most real talent is foreign educated (primary and undergrad). They come here for grad school. Bill is a huge supporter of revamping the America's educational system so we can compete but until then we would rather have the best and brightest working for an American company than a foreign one so we stay competitive.

I know someone who works for Microsoft, he started on an H-1 type visa there. He isn't a slave or underpaid. It's hard to argue he is being exploited and underpaid when he pulls in 6 figures. Microsoft actually follows through with greencards for ther H-1 workers.

I know Microsoft doesn't require citizenship for some of their scholarships and gladly gives them to DREAMers. Bill gates just wants the best of the best, regardless of immigration status. He'll support DREAM (I'm pretty sure he will) but let's not act like DREAM is enough to fix the problem he is trying to address. Let's not say we don't need H-1s and DREAM will do if we want his support. DREAM by itself is not nearly enough.

Agreed. I wasn't at all intending to imply that DREAM should take the place of H-1 visas, but we all know two things:

1. If DREAM passed, many dreamers would be able to fulfill positions that might normally go to visa holders
and
2. Durbin has said that Senate Democrats will block any worker visa legislation until DREAM is passed.

The point was not that Gates should support dream INSTEAD of H1, but that, if he supports H1, then it is very likely he will see the benefits of Dream as well and could prove to be a powerful ally.

I have to say that sure, write to Bill Gates and have him support Dream, but nothing else.
I think that outsourcing workers, or importing them in, is horrible.
We are currently in a recession, and many people are getting fired/losing jobs.
Once we all become Americans, I think you'll understand how annoying it is for companies to import workers, simply because they find it harder to sponsor people to go to college to learn IT, or hire and train young IT students.

If Dream Act, then what is the good of H-1 Visa? I am sure more people are going to be able to actually work for Microsoft. Then we wouldn't even need people from other countries.
