Gutierrez has mentioned in the past he has spoken with the President-elect concerning immigration & here is what he had to say,not to mention a preview of an immigration bill he should be introducing soon.
Quote:
llinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez won’t wait even 100 days. He says he is ready to introduce new immigration legislation on the very same day Obama takes the oath of office, expressing concern that the president-elect and his transition team are not giving the issue the importance it deserves.

Gutierrez says he does not get the impression that there is a sense of urgency on the matter, since there has been no word from Obama on the possibility of an executive order to stop the immigration raids. “They do not understand how every day our community is being destroyed. Waiting until the end of the year will mean that tens of thousands will be separated from their families,” he claims.

There are not many details on what his proposal will include or how it will be different from the Kennedy/McCain Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill that failed to pass Congress in 2007. The only thing he has said is that it will include a path to the legalization of undocumented immigrants and the reunification of families, and that it will attempt to speed up the process of obtaining a visa
I wouldn't be surprised by this since Democrats are famous for being political dualist. The rumours surrounding the Democrats taking up immigration in September-March of 2010 signifies,to me at least, that they are not taking a Comprehensive bill seriously.A bill in September in the House could also prove much more difficult due to the August recess. It would allow those against immigration to mount a campaign against any upcoming comprehensive reform bill.

I hope he doesn't jeopardize the passage of DA in his eagerness...

Read my mind. I guess history always repeat itself. Bush tried it, and it failed. If he tried it right after he won election in 2004, it would have been different result.
Immigration is an issue that gets harder each passing days.
I know people say there are other issues that more pressing. With economy, after passing stimulus bill, what can a president or congress do? President can talk and give speech, other then that there is nothing else he can do. What you do in the mean time. And, regarding Israel and Gaza. That problem never gone be solved. Every president tried and they all failed. It won't be solved in our generation and i doubt it will be solve in our children generation. Hamas and PLO make peace with Israel, its like Lou Dobbs embracing illegal immigrant.
