We are also pragmatists. Comprehensive reform might have to wait until the economy improves. But smaller measures would be easier to swallow this year, and one good example is called DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act). Under this proposal, young people who came here illegally as children could acquire permanent residency by earning a two-year college degree or serving two years in the military.

Obama likes to say that he'll listen to Republicans if they have good ideas. Well, his predecessor has given him one: Improve the lot of immigrants, and improve the prospects of his party in the bargain.

This is what is really going to happen: Agjobs and Dream Act are going to be taken up in congress this year. They both have stronger chances of passing after the 2007 voting.
In 07', the Dream Act came up short of getting the 60 votes and some senators were absent.

Overall, CIR has no chance of passing because of the economy and it too big of a bill to pass.
The economy is getting worse at the moment. Farmers are demanding for Agjobs because they need workers. Dream has the greatest chance of passing, but organizations need to step up their pressure and support for Dream in order for Dream to get the attention and momentum.

We need to contact organizations in support of the Dream Act!
We need to call Senator Durbin, write letters and call congress, get the media support, etc.

This could be our only chance, we have President Obama ,who has mention Dream on Debates and is a supporter, we have a Democratic House & Senate majority, and 2009 is not an election year so no distractions. This is our year so get up and start looking for solutions, good things happen to people that take action and don't sit around and wait
