A bill to allow illegal immigrants to qualify for in-state college tuition may have the best chance of passing in years because of the support of some key Colorado Republican businessmen.

They should also put all their efforts in passing the federal dream act instead.

It'd be nice if all proponents (political figures) with this mindset got together with Durbin and created an established Group with formal DREAM Plan of Attack...or would such public support hurt its chances? I know it would come with public opposition. While I have faith in Durbin it seems that it's all resting on his shoulders.

I commend these students for their courage to speak out...but...

"I think your bill actually, in many ways, fosters false hope," Sen. Keith King (R-Colorado Springs) said. "Are they eventually going to be legal or are they going to be illegal? And to what extent does it make a difference on their legal status in the country if they get in-state tuition or they don't pay in-state tuition?

"If you're successful in getting this legislation through, what's the next step?" Sen. Mark Scheffel (R-Parker) said.

The law would call for students to sign an affidavit saying they will seek citizenship, but doesn't guarantee it.

"I don't think the affidavit issue that we address in the bill really starts to create that kind of pathway for these people," King said. "

F'n Republican....acting dumb...he damn well knows that the DREAM Act is out there. They are making a mockery of the situation...'We can't give them in-state 'cos they can't work, and if they can't work why go to college so why give them in-state'...Genius...genius ... their logic and awareness of the issue (or lack thereof) does not compliment the political status.

Seems this is no longer a question about legality but more a question of what comes first the chicken (education) or the egg (legalization)....well at least for these idiots...either way at least the bill got initial approval....
