I'm glad a Private bill was filed on behalf of Juan and Alex Gomez so they may continue & possibly finish their studies.
Quote:
Juan and Alex Gomez, two Miami brothers who came to represent the plight of many young undocumented immigrant students, got another reprieve from deportation this week.

U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., on Tuesday filed what's called a private bill on their behalf to keep them in the country through 2011. Two years ago, Dodd and U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, R-Miami, filed similar bills, but they expired last year. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had scheduled to deport them to Colombia on March 15 .

The Gomez brothers, who came to this country as toddlers, were at the center of a media maelstrom two years ago when advocates pushed for a bill called the Dream Act. The measure would allow undocumented immigrant students to pursue college or military careers.

Their parents were deported in 2007. Juan now studies finance at Georgetown University and Alex attends Miami Dade College.

I am more than confident that the extension was filed under preconvceived notion that the DREAM Act will be either acted on this year or next year. Otherwise they would not be extending their stay in here.

Sen. Christopher Dodd is a very brave and such a nice man. He deserves praise.

I will thank him for doing this and urge him to not forget about the DREAM Act this year.

I have a few ideas regarding how we can pass the DREAM Act.

I think that the DREAM Act has a better chance of passing as an attachment, or "rider," to the major bills coming up this year, such as the Department of Defense, or Education Bill.

Because having a full blown vote on just the DREAM Act as a stand alone bill gives the hard liners more time to organize and get people to call.

I say to you DREAMERS! We need to start calling NOW!

I think that mailing ACTUAl letters through regural mail will have a better chance of persuading Senators. But we must also call the offices of each senator.

I have thought about being so aggresive in our attempts that we could all gather our resources, for example, mail a senator a letter urging him/her to vote for the DREAM Act as soon as it is possible, or to urge them to attach the DREAM Act and round up more votes amongst themselves.

We need to do this now! We must become our own political organization and lobbying group.

Let's call ourselves the Students and Allies for Passage of the DREAM Act, or SAPDA

I see this forum as very inactive.

We need to revampt our efforst because as time goes by, our chances are becoming less certain.

Juan J.

Good idea, I too will write to Senator Dodd to thank him and remind him about the importance of passing DREAM Act.

I wish this can be done for every Dreamer out there. There a few people who were deported this year that didn't have their senators filing extensions on their behalf. Congratulations to the Gomez brothers, but I can't help but feel that other Dreamers deserve the same thing.
