So a fellow DAP member sent me this message and I told him/her that I was going to copy and paste this for everyone. He/she worked at a congressional office some time ago, and gave me this inside report on what goes on when we fax/phone/mail the congressmen:

I just saw the 8,000 postcard thread. I think it is a GREAT idea! When we received mass faxes, emails or postcards, we really paid attention! We would google the issue and sometimes had to write a memo on it to present the idea to the chief of staff. The whole idea is for us to get every single staffer, field reps, chiefs of staff to know exactly what the DREAM ACT is. Usually interns take calls from constituents or staff assistants so we have nothing to be afraid of. One more thing, every single call is tallied, by way of a spreadsheet. Usually if it's a big issue we'll have two columns one reading pro, one reading con. The staff assistants at the end of the day total up the number of calls and send a nightly report over to the DC office. They let the senator know what its constituency is thinking about a certain issue. We need to do the post card idea, but we also have to call non stop, fax like crazy, email, letters! everything counts. When I was at the office, there was a group that sent over 1,000 faxes in 1 hr for a certain issue, and guess what?, they definitely got the staffers attention. So, all in all, we need to do everything we can. Sorry this reply was so long. Hope this helps.

It's just like a regular phone call. As long as you have long distance you're good to go.

I doubt it. But hopefully there will be others doing the same so that your faxes are not printing one right after the other.

Anyone use or recommend an over the net fax service? Ever since the fax/modem went the day of the dinosaur, I've had trouble with this. Who'd thought I'd miss something about dial-up.

I got this from the "senator of the week thread"
You are allowed two free faxes per day a the link below. Free! Don't let it go to waste.

http://faxzero.com

Here is more information on how to fax a senator.

http://americasvoiceonline.org/page/...ut/DaretoDream

Type in these either of these zip codes: 99513 or 99701, remember to personalize the message, let the senator know about your story, not much detail just a few sentences. It will ask for an Alaska address, don't look up an address, just type in a either Anchorage or Fairbanks.
