The GOP needs to make a strong effort to reach out to Hispanic voters and recruit Hispanics to run for office, or the party will be left behind.

"We have a lot of work to do there," said McCain, who also expressed a willingness to work with Obama on immigration reform. "We have a very big deep hole that we've got to come out of."

I honestly think immigration has more bipartisan support in the senate than healthcare and energy.

True, true...... then again I really don't see how congress can convince the American public that they need to pass immigration when the ecnonomy is as is now. That's a long shot. My prayer is for the economy to improve ASAP then immigration and everything else is a done deal.

On the positive side, I do see Dream Act passing even with the ecnonomy because, America is sooo compassionate to children. America loves children, be it domestic or foreign and I don't see them not passing the dream act. It is only a matter of time.

The problem is that, they want to tackle the dream act as part of comprehensive immigration reform. I also don't see how tackling immigration reform is going to be bad for the economy. Don't buy into the anti-immigrant talking point that the american public don't want to see immigration reform.

The Arizona Republican also said that under certain conditions he would work with President Obama on immigration reform.

A leading proponent of immigration reform efforts during the Bush administration that were foiled by conservatives in his own party, McCain said he would be willing to work with Obama on the issue.

But, McCain said, Obama would have to put forward an immigration policy that included a temporary worker program in order to win his help.

“That and securing the borders is what we're going to have to do, otherwise we'll experience failure again,” McCain said.
