I don't know. I have a feeling they may not try to do immigration reform, but that is just me. Introducing something doesn't equal debating it. Also, I don't think the climate is good for major immigration reform next year. Especially considering the democrats have scaled back almost everything they have tried to do this year. I'm not sure how anyone can think they could actually try to pass something so big after observing what has happened this year.

Sadly, if nothing happens next year, then nothing will happen for a while. This is because forecasts show the democrats losing the house or deeply cutting into their existing majority. Next year may not only be the best shot, but the only shot until 2012+.

Still, I believe that democrats will cave and just try to pass smaller reforms next year. They just passed a bill allowing immigrant spouses of their dead partners to still obtain legal residency this week in the senate, so that is a good sign. The Dream Act already has 30+ cosponsors in the senate and that is with all the attention on health care. I don't see why they wouldn't just pass a smaller package that wouldn't hurt them election wise and would still show the immigrant community that they at least did something.

That is a deep load of s***t. Schumer promised to introduce an immigration reform bill by labor day:
Nothing.
Gutierrez urged the administration earlier in February of this year to grasp immigration reform during this past March or else the agenda wouldn't allow it:
Nothing.
In May (when immigration activists were starting to get restless), Obama goes to the Media and tells everyone not to despair, he will meet with lawmakers on June 8th to discuss immigration:
Delayed (bad sign). June 19th: Delayed (worse sign). June 25th: The same, old group of law procrastinators meet and broadcast to the world the same things they've said for the last 4 years (worst sign). Whatever.

Then, in August, when he pissed off people for backing out of his promise to make this a priority in his first year, and then lying about changing the Bush administration tactics, trying to calm people down, he sents Schumer out to say that next month we'll have a bill by Labor day.
It is now the end of October: Nothing.
And the coup de grace: Because Gutierrez has come back to publicly criticize the administration and to encourage people to hold Obama and the dems to the fire, NOW they say, we will TRY to give this to you next spring. Spring 2010: Nothing.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. IT IS MEANT TO QUIET IMMIGRATION REFORM ACTIVISTS WHILE MAKING EMPTY PROMISES THEY DO NOT INTEND TO MEET.

I can think of nothing more disrespecful than to keep playing with people's livelihoods and promising false hope. I for my part will continue to write and post on behalf of myself and others in our position and not wait and quiet down for their political careers.

^^ I remember all of those things that you point out. I also remember there is an agenda for the American people. Which is Health care. It's very important. There are many Americans citizens and legal immigrants dying because of lack of coverage. Hospitals bills are expensive. Everyone should be more appreciative and less selfish.

It makes perfect sense to do Health care first because it's the right thing to do. Also, if they were to tackle CIR first, it would not work. Americans first!

Energy is next! The House passed an energy bill right? The Senate bill has been introduced. Seems like it will be debated very soon, along with all the other things going on like the war (which is horrible)- that needs to be addressed. And the economy.

Immigration is already in the bag. We just have to wait. I am tired of being in this situation. However, I am over it! I will concentrate in living my life, going to school, being healthy and happy. The best I can and in the mean time. CIR will pass in Spring '10.

Life could be worse.
How hard would it be ICE to start knocking on our doors, showing up to our classes, churches etc and arresting us for being here illegally? Which is a felony! HuH? Stop complaining. DO SOMETHING! Make your voices heard but give thanks that your still here and not locked up. Our Freedom is all we have.
