Lately people have been calling me anti-social and bipolar and shit like that and am really not. It's just that I find it hard to socialize with people who are talking about there jobs, college and the good life and I don't got shit to talk about. I just try not to put myself in the spotlight and open up to people who don't know about my status, so they think am anti-social. Have you ever been heard anti-social or bipolar by people who don't know about your status?

I'm pretty sure you meant to post this in Other Topics instead but yeah this bugs me as well. I don't have anything to talk about either, I'm on my computer 24/7 working to save up money for college. Can't do anything special because I don't have a car, and no money to waste. and if you do try to socialize they always end up pressuring about driving, getting a license, and what not, and I'm not explaining. I can't even drive to the movies and I'm definitely not showing my passport in front of them, so I try to avoid it altogether. I really try to socialize sometimes but sometimes all it does is make things worse. What specially bugs me is when they start talking about the "good life" and what not and I just know I could have a much better life than they do if I only got a chance

At first they start talking about what they've been up to and then it just turns into question after question. Why don't you get a license, why aren't you going to college this year, why dont you just join the military, etc etc.

Sorry about rambling on and on but hey I just wanted to share and explain that socializing is very difficult for me because people put pressure on you and there's nothing you can do about it. Even if you do explain to someone you trust, they usually don't understand. They think you can just go back home or take a citizenship test

not really but just move to a state that will give you a dl, find a job , and find like minded friends. its easier than you think, i dont know how old you are but im 19, and i have way more of a "good life" than most people my age . there are tons of people out there that dont go to college for a few years for 100million different reasons. if anybody asks me why i dont go to college, i just tell them i have no money and the subject is usually forgotten quickly. you can have an awesome life too. activisimn, sports, arts, working with th inviroment are all things that could enhance your life and none of them require a ssn, which is great! soo much to do in the u.s, its unbeliveable , yeah you cant travel or go to school(depending on what your situation is) but other than the possibilities are endless!
simple as 1 2 3 pm me if you have any questions

I have not been called anti-social, but my cousin haha whole different story. We tease her about being depressed and anti-social. Fact of the matter is, she is a book warm and her status in this country truly does depress her at times. I, on the other hand, like going out with my friends and enjoy making new ones. Luckily, I have been blessed with parents that are able to provide for me even with our situation and, to be honest, I don't think about my situation. The only time I do is when I'm discussing it with someone else. It is a good thing because it keeps me from isolating myself from others and thinking I'm different. See, I like to think of myself like any other teenager in this country that is here legally, and that's how we should all think.

I get that too. I always grow quiet whenever some topics are brought up, and people notice it, but mostly it ends up just angering me, cuz I feel like I can't talk freely about them. Thankfully NOW most people already know about my status (I recently made a public speech in an event and told my story), so if anything good came out of it, it is that I don't get those awkward questions anymore.

Mostly everybody that I know know that about my status. Sure, I've been discriminated or made fun off but in the end, I know they're just playing. Like a month ago, we were discussing immigrants in Ellis Island (or whatever it's called) and people just turned around and looked at me. If at all the word "illegal" was mentioned, people would say my name. Yeah I'd feel kinda bad but oh well. I'm pretty cool with everyone and socialize with everyone. I have even posted on Facebook about my status (indirectly) and have discussed my issue with teachers and students. I have mostly everyone's sympathy because of where I stand in school. But don't worry, show you have earned your right to be here and you'll be fine.
