Dude it's in, but what the fuck is this? How in the hell are they going to enforce this? They bring up a good point about the American citizens and legal residents that are going to get swept up under this maybe soon-to-be law. Arpaio is probably crapping his pants from happiness right now.

Signed! I'm sorry things like this is going on in Arizona. If we didn't have a broken immigration system, maybe we wouldn't have this problem. Smh, it's a shame because this is just an excuse for racists to take advantage of power. Best of luck!

This means any state can pass the DREAM Act too?

Fascists. If ever there could be any sliver of a silver lining in this ordeal, it should be that none of the undocumented will/should reply to the census; hopefully leave the state, and let them (AZ legislature) lose out on federal funds and congressional representation. See how long it takes before they completely run out of money; raise taxes and people vote these racists out of office!

Signed, if it passes it will be challenged soon because of the racial profiling that will be occurring. Hope she vetoes.

Yes, this new law will certainly be challenged. And although this doesn't seem to bode well for immigration, I see many parallels between this year and 2006. In '06, when the Senate actually passed CIR, the immigrant community rallied around opposition to REAL ID. There was something real and invidious to protest, and in turn, that provided the impetus for reform. Here, as in 2006, advocates may be able to rally around this law and the many other local and state level enforcement mechanisms. 2006 was also a midterm election year (in which the GOP lost several key seats) so although seemingly unlikely, it is not impossible to pass immigration reform.

Granted, there are also several differences. In '06, we had a Republican Majority Leader (miss that guy) and a Republican president who was actually very vocal about immigration reform. It was easier to bring votes GOP votes together if they had party members in leadership positions. Not so this year with Reid and Obama. And indeed, that has probably created more barriers than opportunities.

At any rate, keep CALLING your reps and senators, especially those in key "swing states" (remember those gettable GOP senators).

I don't think she will veto it. She is up for election this year.

This will most likely, unfortunately, become law.

According to both articles, organizations like The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are prepared to take it up to the feds if she doesn't veto it. This will be an ongoing war between pro and anti-immigrants.

Deja-vu...remember Sensenbrenner bill in 2006?

So if you are legal, make sure when you run to the store to get milk, you have your papers on you. This is ridiculous! Don't worry it is just a matter of time before they arrest the wrong person and the state is being sued.
