Five boys at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California were threatened with suspension for wearing US Flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. They were told that if they returned to class without turning the shirts inside out they'd be suspended, so the boys choose to go home for the day.

"On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus."

lol

Do we really need more stupidity to add hate towards Mexicans. Anyways, I saw a bunch of white people driving around with American flags on 5 De Mayo. It doesnt bother me but they look silly considering its "5 de mayo"

God damned political correctness. We are what the Turks are in Germany and the Pakis are in the UK.

Why the funk was this such a huge deal? And why were these kids sent home? I mean, did the administrators at this school forget about one of the most basic rights of citizens of this country: FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!! I mean I wish they would have sent home all those people at the rallies with flags that were other than the American flag. Where were they then? And I get that it's 5 de Mayo, but they can wear whatever they want as long as it doesn't violate the school's Dress Policy. This is major stupidity and looks bad on our part. Even though we had nothing to do with it.

Didn't you read the lines that it would

, believe it or not, they might be doing it to provoke fights, I mean really did they have to wear it in high school? Remember this is high school (bunch of teenagers), not the adult world. The principal has the right to use authority if she/he thinks something will create a disturbance in school.

I think the kids that need to be sent home are the ones that would fight someone for wearing the American flag. This is really pathetic/sad for the future of America.

They're more than welcome to wear what they want. But, really? Five of them were wearing the exact same thing. I'm sure the principal asked them to do that because he/she didn't want to take any chances that they were specifically looking to cause trouble.

That was my first thought too. Why choose to wear t-shirts and bandanas with the American flag on them on that specific day? If it was one person, then I'm sure the principal would have overlooked it. But there were five of them wearing the same thing. -side eye- IMO, there's more to the story.
