Senator Bennett (R) from Utah has lost the nomination for his party for re-election. He is another victim of the teabaggers who are purging the Republican Party of everybody who is not a far-right lunatic. Specter... Scozzafava in NY... Crist... now Bennett. He may run as a write-in candidate, but that is monumentally difficult.

The implications: Bennett voted for cloture on the DREAM Act in 2007 and probably would/will vote for it again, especially now that his days are numbered and he doesn't have to pander to the hard-right.

After November, he will likely be replaced by another conservative who will vote no on DREAM, vote no on immigration reform.

Immigration reform must be done before the next Congress begins. There is no doubt that it will be almost impossible to do in the next two years if it doesn't happen this year.

He might vote for CIR if the vote should come.

Again, you're right. Any meaningful reform HAS TO come before next Congress or else its DOOMED.
