saw this on the frontpage news on DAP and didnt find the article so putting on here

"Governor McDonnell says he doesn't support the DREAM Act"
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=817118251389

this video needs to spread, absolutely loved it, i think she will keep mcdonnell and a lot of people there thinking about this, she brought up all the points and misconceptions that people have about DREAMERs and i think if people know the facts it really changes the argument because im sick of hearing all the same lies

people need to know
1) WE PAY TAXES. yes we pay income taxes just like everyone else and we dont recieve tax returns because we dont have a SS#, we dont qualify for most social services like unemployment benefits, welfare, etc for the same reason, we pay income taxes and every other tax just like everyone else and for the most part receive no benefit

2) THERE IS NO LEGAL PATH TO RESIDENCY. For most people in the US if you dont come from a country that qualifies for a diversity visa (only a few countries with historically low immigration levels qualify) the only way to come here legally is
i.) be married to a US citizen
ii.) Be hired directly by a job and declared Essential to the operation of the company and that no other person in the US can do your job (very hard to qualify for)
iii.) Invest 1 million in a company that hires at least 10 US citizens

if you dont match that criteria, and most people dont, there IS NO LEGAL WAY.... say any typical middle class US citizen wanted to go live in some other country with same policies...the answer would be a straight no, theres no back of the line, theres no cutting in front of a line, THERE IS NO LINE

3) WE ARE STUDENTS, not criminals, not lazy people doing nothing, or trying to take peoples jobs, etc. The dream act benefits students and those who join the military to serve their country. Theres always a few bad apples in every bunch, there are criminals everywhere. I agree get rid of the criminals, THATS NOT WHAT WERE TALKING ABOUT! people always try to change the subject, were talking about the students here.

(additionally im sick of when people bring up unemployment statistics, were not just workers were job creators, its not like theres only a set amount of jobs and then it runs out. When people are educated and go to college, guess what new things happen, new things are discovered, new needs are found, new jobs are created, adding more educated people to a society also adds more jobs surprise surprise. also were already here were not "taking" anything from anyone)

4...bonus) We are not all farmworkers or hanging out outside a home depo looking for a job, we are students, we are volunteers in the community we live alongside you, you probably know many illegals and not even know about it. We are normal people like you but we are stripped of a normal life and are stripped of most rights and simple every day things like being able to work, drive, or get any financial aid or loans or anythign for school.

5...bonus 2) WE ARE AMERICANS, ive never been to mexico, i dont know what its like, you could probably tell me more about what mexico is (or whatever country your from) then i know, ive lived here since i was 1.67yrs old went to school here, went to college here, ive never been anywhere else (but i figured this argument was obvious, but ill put it here anyways)

but anyways i guess i just saw this video and it inspired me to go on this little rant because im sick of hearing, the stupid cutting in front of the line, unfair to LEGAL immigrants, leaching the system, etc arguments and i think if people knew the facts it would be completely different

so yes thank you for asking him these questions Castillo and bringing all of this up because this is exactly what we need we need to educate people on who we really are so they are not always just repeating what they think they know, so they dont keep changing the subject and trying to throw us in with talking points that have nothing to do with us, and i think this video definitely opened the eyes of a lot of people

lets spread this video and keep getting more like this, when people attack us THESE SIMPLE ARGUMENTS IS ALL WE NEED, we just need to show them we are real people. Were not taking advantage the system, we have no other way, there is no way to use the system properly. Our opponents are trying to dehumanize us and generalize us so people dont think about the fact that we are real everyday people and could be just like any of you, but we are, were not some unkown illegal secluded in the shadows somewhere, we are real, everyday people, who live amongside you but are stripped of their right because they happened to not be born in the right place, this isnt right, and we need to remind people of this.

I think the most important argument for the Dream Act is that it is not CIR. While watching the video, I noticed that all of the governer's responses were to CIR and not the DA; which of course makes perfect sense. I beleive that the senators and reps that oppose the DA some how equate it to CIR. They are afraid of the blow back of giving "amnsety" to 12 million people.

I think we should try to distinguish ourselves as much as possible by quantifying our argument, as the girl in the video attempted to. Besides our nubmers being obviously substantially lower than those who will fall under the CIR category, our potential individual economic contributions are substantially higher than the migrant farm worker. And of course there are more quantifiable arguments than those two, but I think an emphasis should be placed here rather than trying to appeal these politician's hearts/emotions. Since they obviously have none....
