I never said he voted against it to block it. He did it as a tactic, it benefited the DA so it didn't DIE and didn't have to be debated thru the Committee. In that case, Reid can bring up the bill to the chamber easily since his vote was a no. Want some more research?

OUR JOB now is to keep calling and sending them all kinds of memos to vote for the DA. Keep the pressure going to all senators. I do have confidence it will pass as a stand alone AFTER nov 2 elections.
You do know why Reid voted No right?

Therefore, it's not just a matter of getting "only 3 more GOP votes."

As long as there is some hope that DREAM will be reconsidered, then I'm fine with that. But that in no way should contribute to any belief that we only need the votes of a few sympathetic GOPers. We have to approach this like we have no GOP votes.
We must have 1 Rep vote yes to pass.

1 vote is definitely necessary but not sufficient. We can't minimize the amount of help we need from Republicans. If we adopt this view that, "oh well, Gutierrez is HOPEFUL that the Senate would bring DREAM back and that the vote on the defense bill is a great sign therefore we only need a few more Republicans" then we are missing the mark. Some Democrats will defect when DREAM comes up for a straight up vote, that much is clear. We need more than just some GOPers. We need a lot so let's not get complacent.
