There is no point...the anti will believe whatever they want to regardless of what we say, and all it will do is cause more argument. Focus on calling the house and senate instead--those are the people with power. What they think is more important than anyone at this moment.

Or comment on positive stories, articles, blogs. The more comments the higher it is on the list when it is googled.. That is how people get their info. You really need to get voters who live in the persuadable states to get active and fax/email/call their Senator urging yes on DREAM. When you comment, make sure to have a link to a quick and easy way for readers to reach their representative.

OK...I posted the following anti-venom on weaselzippers under the name "Sanity Seeker". Feel free to use it anywhere. The USCIS facts are from my brother Bob; a very experienced immigration councilor:

To all the venomous responders of this report:
First, would you please explain to me how a 5 year old child taken across the US border FORCEABLY has broken the law? If your spouse abducted your child in this manner, would you consider your child to be a criminal?
Aside from that, allow me to correct some fallacies many of you believe.
• “These immigrants are a financial drain.” –THE TRUTH– More accurately “were” a financial drain because, in accordance with US Federal law, we are required to educate all children within our borders. Now that we , through our tax dollars, have invested in them, why would you not want to see our country benefit financially from these young Americans who are ready to become productive tax-paying citizens? Additionally, many have worked (before ID’s were scrutinized), paid taxes, and contributed to our social security system, for which they cannot get credit. Yes, that’s right…and consequently, the SS administration is funded with billions of extra dollars which will benefit…guess who?
• “The legalization process will cost the taxpayers.” – THE TRUTH– Wrong. The USCIS (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis) charges hefty fees for all types of status adjustment. So, all of the federal processing costs are covered by the applicants. Not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars attorneys, clerks, and other peripheral businesses enjoy.
• “These immigrants can easily produce false ID. The feds don’t do a thorough check.”
–THE TRUTH– If you had any idea what an immigrant applicant has to go through to adjust status, you would be amazed. In the case of a DREAM applicant, he or she will have to show a detailed paper trail establishing long term continuous US residency. Every applicant will be finger-printed, and interviewed (interrogated might be a better word) by a USCIS agent…and they are very diligent in performing their job. They scrutinize every document that the applicant presents, and God forbid they are one short.
• “This proposed DREAM Act amendment has no relevance to the defense bill (S.3455).”
–THE TRUTH– The following quote is from the Department of Defense STRATEGIC PLAN FOR FISCAL YEARS 2010-12, from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. “Performance Objective 2.1.1: Recruit the All-Volunteer Force by finding smart ways to sustain quality assurance even as we expand markets to fill manning at controlled costs as demonstrated by achieving quarterly recruiting quality and quantity goals, and through expansion of the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) program and the once-medically restricted populations, as well as the DREAM initiative.”.
• “It’s a fraud. The parents get legalized too: once the kids are citizens, in a few years, they could obtain legal papers for their mothers, fathers and perhaps other relatives”
– THE TRUTH– After the “conditional” component is removed from one’s LPR status, the individual may petition for his/her spouse and children. But because the individual arrived in the US as a child, this is a highly unlikely scenario.
• “It creates a huge new incentive for potential future illegal immigrants with children, now living in other countries, to sneak across the border to await the next installment of DREAM.”
– THE TRUTH– When people are living in desperation and poverty, the last thing on their mind is long-term family planning. The real incentive for folks to immigrate into the US is something much more tangible and within immediate reach…JOBS.

The more reasonable of you will gain some understanding from these facts. But I’m afraid many of you will be untouched. I believe this because of the following article from Newsweek (http://www.newsweek.com/ ), August 23, & 30, 2010, page 14.
“’I’d hate for Grand Isle [Louisiana] to become known as a racist community. But these flags are just our way of telling strangers to keep out.’ This is a quote by Theresa, a resident of Grand Isle, LA, on the increase in confederate flags since the BP cleanup workers, many of whom are black and Latino, began arriving in the mostly white town.”
I think this speaks volumes…this is really what you venomous folks are all about. You don’t give a damn about who is violating what law. You don’t give a damn about the US constitution or you wouldn’t be engaging in junior high school debates about whether a mosque should be built in lower Manhattan. (Gee, how do I know you feel that way?) All you worry about is how everyone is taking from you…you, who have been fortunate enough to live in the most wealthy country in the world. All you care about is how the poor, the disenfranchised, and the immigrants serve your selfish needs. Yes, Theresa, your statement is quite a paradox... come and clean up my garbage and do all the dirty work that I would never do so I can enjoy a fat, greedy lifestyle, but please go away or at least stay in the shadows so I don’t have to feel unsafe and uncomfortable in your hideous presence. Yes, Theresa, your prayer is that of many millions of Americans who, oddly enough, claim to embrace the teachings of Jesus.
