Gingrich uses phrases like “pathway to legality” to characterize his support for a measure similar to the DREAM Act, which grants young illegal immigrants U.S. residency if they enroll in college or join the military.

“I am deeply committed to securing the border,” Gingrich told The Hill. “I am deeply committed to changing the deportation rules for felons and gang members. … But I also think we have a huge challenge — what do you do with the human beings who are engaged, some of whom are married, have children? It’s a very complicated situation, and I don’t you think you can just wave a magic wand and have some kind of a simple, clean answer.”

In Iowa, Republicans such as Rep. Steve King have taken a hard-line stance against immigration reform, insisting on mass deportation of those in the U.S. illegally.

Robert Haus, an Iowa-based Republican consultant, said Gingrich will likely be challenged on the issue should he launch a presidential bid.

King said, “I want to hear [Gingrich’s] position very carefully before I would critique it. Mine is that the DREAM Act provides amnesty to people that came into this country [illegally], some knowingly and some unknowingly. Where do you draw the line? You’re going to get drug smugglers along with the little ladies.”

I heard Newt Gingrich just launched an exploratory committee for 2012. You know what this means. He's in the initial stages of his campaign which will include pitching bullshit ideas to both Latinos and Republicans. This is the same thing that Obama did and he is a Democrat.

Secure the border secure the border secure the border...

Anybody else tired of this generality? What does securing the border mean? They've been saying this crap for years now..

Here:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=127140687

You can listen to the story.. Its almost a year old and before the additional $60 million in funding given to "secure the border" late last year, but its very relevant...

Anyone who is pro dream act shouldn't support anybody that has EVER said secure our borders... Its just politicians playing politics by spewing out glittering generalities to not piss of their base and try grab some votes from moderates..

^^ Exactly. Point is that its going to take real courage and heart to champion a legislation like CIR through. A few names that are coming to my mind who have the potential include Durbin and Schumer to some extent. However, they can't accomplish anything by themselves. Don't expect anything from President Obama. He's there for show, just like the Queen of England. The heavy hitters are in the Congress. Don't cave into this idea that the border isn't secure. The politicians themselves know in their heart that this isn't the case.
