Here it goes....DA is on the way to IL.

Lots of states bringing up their own DA, what's that telling the people in D.C. get with it and pass the federal one already.

This one I could actually get excited about since I live so close to Chicago but they never mention a date. Also you have to live in IL before you were 16, they probably look at your elementary records. Which sucks because it looks like my state is going in a completely opposite direction.

States want immigration reform... That's why they keep on passing immigration laws or introducing state DA... Only the feds refuse to do immigration reform.

If the Chicago DREAM Act comes to be, Emanuel's campaign said a Chicagoan must meet the following criteria:

* Moved to Chicago before the age of 16...
* Resided in Chicago for at least five consecutive years prior to application for DREAM Status.
* Be a student in good standing at an elementary or high school in Chicago - public, private or religious.
* Be between the ages of 12 and 25 at the time of application.
* Be a law-abiding Chicagoan.

This isn't for the state of Illinois - it is only for Chicagoans who would be able under this plan to attend college in Chicago. This is a new low for the Dems.

Wtf is this? Wtf is next? A neighborhood "DREAM" act so that you won't have to worry about attending public K12 in your area schools? Everyone is hijacking the actual DREAM act legislation; watering it down; applying in all manner of variations, except the one that counts: legalization. I see that he lowered the age to 25. I know he is no longer at the White House, but this is now the 4th variation of a proposed Dream that I've read with this cut-off age.

The DREAM Act is a legalization program; NOT a tuition plan. If you have status, the cost is the least of the issues because people will work three jobs if necessary; call it immigrant work ethic if you will. This is nothing but cynical pandering and I find it utterly disrespectful for him to expect people to buy his BS.

I'd have to agree with this guy. It is misleading to say that it's "Chicago's DREAM Act" and not really the entire state. Chicago is in Illinois, so the entire state should benefit from the DREAM Act, since there is an emerging hispanic/minority population in Illinois, just like Colorado.

There is a DA proposal in Illinois (state level). The Chicago DA is a campaign promise from Emanuel.

Here’s what the Illinois DREAM Act Would Do:

1- Good information. This bill would encourage counselors and officers receive regular training regarding educational opportunities for immigrant youths.

2-Education Access. Establish a privately-funded Illinois DREAM Fund, administered by a volunteer state commission, to make scholarships available to undocumented students at no cost to taxpayers. The bill would also open up college savings programs and prepaid tuition programs to all Illinois residents, so that the families of DREAM students will be better able to pay for tuition.

3- Driver’s Certificates. To enable DREAM students to get to and from school, the Illinois DREAM Act would enable them to get driver’s certificates.

4- Illinois DREAM Commission. In addition to administering and fundraising for the Illinois DREAM Fund, this commission would monitor implementation of other parts of this law and research the needs of DREAM youths as they make their way through college.

I live in Illinois just outside of the Chicago. I do not care much about anything else but the driving certificates. I really hope this passes!!!

The state level one that is. I agree, the Chicago one is BS. It would be unfair because I spend most of my time at the university anyways.

This needs to pass ASAP.
