via email...please take action:

Quote:
Today actually marks 86 days Andy has spent behind bars for nothing more than fleeing Africa with his family when staying would have meant certain death. Last time we contacted you about this case ICE had just attempted to deport Andy, nothing has changed. Each day while in jail Andy is taunted by ICE officers who continually threaten him with deportation, 'we almost got you again' they tell him. Andy needs your help to get out, please join us in calling on his member of congress to help.

Take Action and Call: "Will you save the Mathe family?"

The entire Mathe-Karekezi family is currently on threat of deportation, if carried out it would mean the entire family's life would be in jeopardy. They fled Africa several years ago after numerous death threats and even an attempt to kidnap their youngest child. Right now the entire family needs your help, please take a minute to call and ask that his member of congress "step in and help save the lives of the Mathe family."

Spread the Word: Make a Call for the Mathe Family

Help us get the word out, 'the Mathe family could be killed if deported.' If you are on facebook please change your profile picture to the one on this email. Let your friends know you placed a call and ask them to do the same. The family has just 12 days left and every minute counts!

Sample status update:

"Help stop death of Mathe family: use this script to make a call - one phone call can make the difference!"

Thanks for your support,

Breaking news, Mathe may be getting deported today or tomorrow, its uncertain details may be found in the e-mail I received recently posted below:

Quote:
Hi XXXXX

This should be good news but it isn't, yesterday at 6:00 pm Andy called his mother, Hope, from detention to let her know that ICE told him "you are going home on Tuesday or Wednesday." What ICE wouldn't do is tell him if that means home to South Africa or home to Atlanta.

Yesterday at the NCLR conference one of our members hand-delivered to President Obama himself all of your petition signatures with a simple ask, 'if you really care about our community do something good and help the Mathe family.' President Obama is personally aware of what is going on now we need to make sure he does the right thing.

Please make a call right now to find out where Andy is

Right now we don't know where Andy is, he could be sitting at the airport for the only 7:00 pm flight directly to South Africa. We need your urgent action to find out where Andy is. Last time ICE attempted to deport Andy he talked his way off of the plane by sharing his story with the Delta pilot who then refused to take off with him on board, ICE has already threatened to 'drug and deport' him next time.

Make a call for Andy: Please call John Morton's office, the head of ICE, at 1-800-821-9358. Tell the person who picks up:

"Hi, I was calling to ask that Andy Mathe not be deported, he will be killed if he is sent back. His alien number is: 088-488-386."

XXXXX after you call please respond to this email and let us know if you hear anything on the status of Andy.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdollahi

Unfortunately, we weren't able to save him. He's been sent home as of this moment

Thanks for all your support anyway. Let's make sure we don't lose another one in the future.

sux....; just a thought however, if his life was truly in danger, why not petition asylum in another country or straight up bail for the north/south?

Just saw the video. His mother spoke very clearly and you can tell the toll that something like this takes on a family. South Africa is a great developing country. It will be difficult but I'm sure he can adjust and build a better life there.
