A year after SB 1070 took effect, states nationwide are turning away from similar bills, fearing the financial and political fallout seen in Arizona and the consequences that anti-immigrant legislation could have in their own backyards.

“Arizona was a wake up call for other states,” said Elena Lacayo, field coordinator with the Immigration Policy Project at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the nation’s largest advocacy group for Hispanics.

Whether the anti-immigrant groups admit it or not, this kind of propaganda goes beyond the fight for human rights and ethical reasoning. Above all, SB1070 and all of its other spawns are economical deal breakers.

Good article.

Their economy is in considerable trouble, they are cutting a lot of programs trying to find a solution and ignoring the 600 pound gorilla in the room that is eating up all their money. Arpaio's immigration enforcement is seeing an over $100 million deficit which cannot be explained. This question was asked before, somewhere around this thread and there were quite a few examples of adverse effects that happened to Arizona some of them more directly attributed to their stance.

Some of the stuff they have cut have made Arizona despised among people as being unjust and inhumane. At one point Governor Brewer denied life-saving transplants that would have saved the lives of multiple people in order to save a couple million, the donors were available, it was authorized and the governor of Arizona essentially handed a death sentence to those people, it was a while ago, however.

AZ is starting to mellow down on this issue since the essential part of SB1070 was blocked by the court. They're still fighting for most of it to take in the effect, but that will take time and no one knows yet what the sure outcome is.

One of the biggest evidence was the rejection of AZ's immigration omnibus proposal. Russel Pearce...the guy who wrote SB1070....proposed a tight immigration bill with terms that makes it mandatory for hospitals and schools (k-12) to check immigration status. It also proposed landlords to do the same and reject illegals from renting houses...which would go against the housing rights in the state. Business owners were the first groups to reject the idea because they didn't want another SB1070 to jeopardize the economy and affect them.

Russel Pearce is currently being challenged for a recall...the re-election will be this November.

Really the whole biased movement claiming to be from la rasa and a member of the Arizona coalition for immigrant rights or something like that seems to be this one guy that writes for examiner.com by the name of Miguel Perez. We have had our conflicts with that guy and the astounding amount of misinformation he spreads disguised as something that looks like news.

The Arizona immigrant organization he claims to be a part of when searched on google just about always leads back to that one person.

I say this because it seems people have become fond of quoting him again and believing he is a reliable source of news, we disproved him once before and got him to write an apology piece once because he claimed his source was bad after we essentially disproved all his "facts".

Just beware where you get your news from.
